BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

Anyway, I'm sure either Baddass or I can try to find out what exactly BenQ has changed. Preset tweaking is certainly possible or even some changes to the default gamma handling. On my unit 'Gamma 3' was far from ideal even on 'Standard' mode, so I had to use 'Gamma 5'.

Got mine back yesterday, so from sending to receiving it took exactly one week. Not bad at all. The box had a couple of notches taken out of it, the polystyrene inside had 4 chunks missing and they didn't tape it back up very well but plugged it in and all is good. Checked the firmware and yes it's version 002.

Just the monitor. Nothing else. No stands or cables.

Actually in the RMA it says to send the screen AND two part stand, but NO cables or accessories.

Quoted from my RMA e-mail from BenQ :-

Please package the device securely with packaging material, to avoid any damage during transit. DO NOT send accessories like cables, memory cards; or carry bags. Unless requested by our technical support team, accessories will not be returned. If you are sending in a monitor, please include the base/neck with the device. (When using expanded polystyrene as protection, please place the device in a plastic bag to prevent polystyrene particles entering the device)

However it seems some of you didn't send the stand and still got it back fine, but I'm just quoting the info from BenQ. Perhaps if you don't have the original box and packaging it might be difficult to include the stand. This is the main reason I always keep PC & tech packaging, at least until the warranty expires ... you never know! ;)

So is the general feeling on this to get the firmware update?

Have had the screen for about a month and have been pleased with its performance as it is so was going to leave it but seems that people are impressed with the changes resulting from the update.

Absolutely, 101% definitely!

I agree with other users here who say it just looks better straight away. When I initially received it the out-of-box settings were horrendous, nearly made my eyes pop out, but without having even fiddled with the settings much, the screen really does look even better.

Now ... to have a proper fiddle around with these settings!

YES. Arrange it asap to be upgrades to V002. Then join the rest praising the quality of this monitor to greater heights.

I was never so excited with anything that call "my computer" ever. Even my truly great 295X2.

:o
I read that, saw the bracket and thought that I doubt they want it. So I sent the monitor only :o

-----------------

For those interested about my settings

Blur Reduction : OFF
Black Equalizer : 0
Color Vibrance : 10
Low Blue Light : 0
Instant Mode : ON
Auto Game Mode : OFF (cannot understand what it does)

Brightness : 100
Contrast : 50
Sharpness : 8
Gamma : 5
Color Temp : Normal
AMA : Premium
Dynamic Contrast : 0
Senseye Demo : OFF (i have not idea what that is).

There might be better settings, but I personally feel comfortable with those.
Do not be scared with Brightness 100. The black is black and the white is white. No bleeds or anything else. Is making EVE & Elite looking great.

Why do you have blur reduction off? From what I was reading there seemed to be no downsides to it apart from the screen being a bit darker. I notice you have brightness at 100 though.

I can understand 100% brightness if you have blur reduction on, but with it off holy smokes :eek::eek:

The screen to me looks and behaves better with blur reduction off. But that's just me, we all have different eyes.

Can you expand on this a bit? The reason I ask is that I'm coming from a 10 year old samsung 22" lcd so am not familar with features you get on modern screens. I've read up on blur reduction and had it down as a must have feature. What are the downsides from your point of view?

These are the setting i'm using too ;)( contrast on mine @ 47 ) but apart that everything else the same and i find it stop on for me from daytime to night time. ;););););)

Does anyone know if this monitor supports 2560x1440 @ 144Hz over HDMI 2.0?

If I bought one now would it come with this new firmware I've heard about to fix the various issues? (If there are more than one, I'll admit I don't actually know what they are, something about AMA...)

I can't believe the guys running 100 brightness with blur reduction off....wowsers, that's insanely bright to me. I find it easier looking at the sun than looking at 100 brightness with blur reduction off.

I have mine at 45 brightness, 50 contrast, blur reduction off, gamma 5, colour vibrance 12, black balance 5.

It's just shy of 300 cd/m2 at 100%, so very bright indeed. People will think it looks dim when they lower it, but they should really just give their eyes time to adjust. Then it should look quite bright again.

Yeah, I change it last night after all this criticism :o

Brightness 51
Contrast 50

Rest remained the same.

Yep
VGA/HDMI1.4 :
50Hz ~ 76Hz

HDMI2.0 :
50Hz ~ 144Hz

DVI-DL :
50Hz ~ 76Hz

DP1.2a :
40Hz ~ 144Hz

Thanks.
I even looked at that site, but didn't spot it.

I'm right in thinking you can only do FreeSync over DisplayPort though aren't I? (As I recall Adaptive Sync is part of the DisplayPort spec)
Strikes me as a little odd that a Freesync monitor would have HDMI 2.0 when only Nvidia make cards with HDMI 2.0, but Nvidia can't use FreeSync.

That said as 1 of my PCs has Nvidia cards and the other has AMD this might actually work out...

Got mine being collected on Monday now, credit where it's due, so far BenQ have been very good about the whole process, hopefully that continues :)
