Best FO3 Mods?

Im getting the odd pause with the high res texture pack in the wasteland, even with the optional performance addons, seems to be when they're loading or something, also with the gnr radio mod i get the odd pause before playing, hmm ah well its not bad enough to really bother me, just wish everything would work perfect, i will hold off on any major game changes for now i think.

*shrug* i dunno, my game runs smoothly, right up until it crashes for whatever reason. Doesn't happen much in regular play, tends to be a problem on quickloading/loading after death (probably caused by my save manager).

With RE to GNR More Where That Came From, mine works fine and there are no issues.

Some people have had pauses when they havent installed some of the .wavs (i.e. do you hear clips of info about VATS, and what to do if you come into conact with Fallout??) if not, then you've missed something in your install :)

Ugh.. if your using FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager), are you supposed to install mods in Fallout3/Data folder or FOMM's mod folder?

Is everyone using FO3Edit? Apparently its a good idea even with smaller amounts of mods as it just helps with stability.

Tried the performance pack and it seems to be alright now, i think my pc just couldn't shift the data around fast enough, textures still look good just not quite as sharp up close.

What does:

* This mod does not exist in the current template

In the load order report mean?

Also, it says I have 19 or so duplicate entries, cause for concern?

Well this is an absolute joke. After a necessary reinstall and many attempts trying to fix, my games fallen down with the dreaded 'archive invalidation' bug, whereby you simply CANNOT install ANY mods for the game no matter how many times you reinstall the damn thing, as the game simply cannot override old data (which allows mods to work).

Archieve Invalidation Mod said:
Important Notes

-ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! will set bInvalidateOlderFiles to 1, on some computers setting bInvalidateOlderFiles to 1 in Fallout 3's ini will cause the game to crash on startup, at the moment it is unknown why this happens and there is no solution yet, unfortunatly you'll have to do without ANY modified original content since bInvalidateOlderFiles needs to be set to 1 to use any.

This is absolute bull**** tbh, should have been fixed by Beth ages ago. The fact that they've left the game with this game breaking bug simply beggars belief.

In my last attempt I'm going try reinstalling Windows to see if that fixes it, but really, this is just plain retarded. Sigh.

You mean a gamebreaking bug that no-one can seem to figure out the cause and which is most likely down to your computer not the game and to which no solution exists because again, no-one knows what is causing it? How the **** would they fix that?

And how sure are you its that?

I'm positive, just look a the comment page of the site I linked. Its a well known issue and I'm sure that Bethesda with their experience having made the ****ing game could solve instead of modders who don't have near the kind of access or knowledge of the game could do.

Perhaps when/if you should get the bug you'll be more sympathetic and understand the anger this causes instead of jumping to a games developers side like a typical fanboy.

Or raging at a Dev for not being able to fix something that as far as anyone knows is entirely dependant on your personal set up?

Especially as it's YOUR choice to use mods, to be honest as long as Bethesda made vanilla work (which they did, mostly), any issues you have using mods is your problem.

I no longer have any issues with the game since I started using FO3Edit and actually checking to see if issues were because I had installed mods wrong which is 99% of the time the reason for most peoples problems.

Yes, hence why it worked one install and failed another. Despite multiple reinstalls, despite multiple free space sweeps etc etc. Clearly this is all down to my machine, despite all the other people suffering the same issue? Brilliant logic there, cap'tain.

If Bethesda is going to support and actively encourage mod creation (which no doubt helped increase their sales) then yes Bethesda are under a moral obligation if nothing else to sort out the issues on their end.

Bully for you. Some how I sense you don't even understand the issue affecting people, how surprising.

I shan't bother responding to this trash talk from this point on as its clearly leading no where. Good day.

I think you'll find I understand completely, for a good 3 months after I bought the game I couldn't play it because it crashed on the first loading screen. This turned out to be due to a dodgy file path and sound card drivers simply not being compatible, the game only really started working for me when I got W7 and ASUS released new drivers that were compatible.

I just don't think that raging at the devs is always the best way of going about complaining about a problem because as with my issues, it's very often nothing to do with them and something that without testing the game on a thousand different set ups isn't reasonable for them to try and fix.

2 questions:

1) What order should I play the DLC through in? I completed vanilla FO3 twice when it came out but figured the add ons were a tad expensive so gave em a miss.
2) I have been playing a fair bit of oblivion and am loving my custom mage / stealthy assassin dude. Does anyone know if stealth is a viable build for FO3? I'm thinking something along the lines of small guns + stealth = crits ***?

ok after days of trawling through nexus and this thread.

i think i have all the mods i need, going to give this game a go tonight :)

i had nothing but pains when i highly modded oblivion so ill have my fingers crossed.

is there any guides out there regarding how to correctly install and setup mods?

i have my archiveinvalidation at the ready :p

been trying hard all weekend to get this working with all my mods :(

either crashes immediately or i weird texture problems occur in game.

can anyone list the absolute must have mods? the ones you simply shouldnt play the game without?

Also, are all these hd texture mods worth it over their original counter parts?

Hey all. Tried reading the topic but it seems all over with regards to recommendations so ill ask somit specific to me.

I have fo3 vanilla and would like to improve the textures and models of the guns, the peoples faces (too ugly atm) and lighting and a good hud scale to fit 1920x1080p.

Is their a mod pack all done for something like this i can just extract to the games install directory or somit. If not can someone help by stating the things i need and how to get it all installed and working without conflicts.

Cheers.
