best fps for story line? thats easy, its half life 1 not 2.
best fps for game mechanics? soldier of fortune, and medal of honour (the early ones)

Ok if were gonna include deus ex which i agree is a very good game then what about MAX PAYNE! That was one brilliant game! Then theres always Kingpin another classic!

It's hard to compare but i'm gonna go with....Goldeneye, purely for the fact that at the time i couldn't pull myself away from it.

Because when I first played half life, and i was on the train to black mesa, with the credits rolling like a movie.. i just felt totally overwhelmed.

When that giant worm thing was CLANG CLANG CLANGING i was proper deep into the moment.. Barnie helping me out, the marines running around shouting to eachoter... It was the most cinematic and stunning game i had played to that point.

It then led me to play Counter Strike Beta 5.2, then i played beta 6.1 right through my GCSEs and barely slept. It was absolutely the best gaming time ever for me. Counter Strike nights with my friends in what was a brilliant community back then cant be beaten

Same here. It was very competitive but fun at the same time. When valve bought the game there was an influx of idiots and cheaters but the game was still decent enough

Very close, but I have to say HL1... (not 2). The first was just so.... amazing. I remember getting it and also the 2 add-ons where you played as the marines and then the security guy. Was so engrossing. Don't get me wrong, many good FPS games over the years but that sticks in my mind.

Opposing force was a really good add on pack. Pity it was so short like most add ons in general. Never did play Blue shift though

Half-life is an amazing game, the length and scope of the story is great, HL2 is only better in looks.
I'm amazed that it's 10 ten years old now.
