Half life 1 is the best FPS. Even though I think Deus ex is the best game ever I have to say it's a FP-RPG

Both were revolutionary in my eyes, great stories with great executions.

Im gonna give it to HL1. Deus Ex cheats because of its RPG elements. If you want my best game of all time I think Deus Ex can have that.

best fps for story line? thats easy, its half life 1 not 2.
best fps for game mechanics? soldier of fortune, and medal of honour (the early ones)

Mate, C&C renegade?! The same C&C Renegade which was very very average?!

Each to their own but it was nothing special for its time when it was released and certainty not a classic.

why because the graphics where average? As long as the graphics are ok that's good enough for me. I look for game play and balance. That's one thing renegade had in abundance.

Deus Ex is not actually a very good FPS. It's a fantastic game, yes, but the FPS bit is occasionally shoddy. Thus the best FPS is HL1, because it's tight, loaded with great guns, obscenely long, and filled with amazing set pieces and human enemy AI.

I genuinely felt i was playing something very special when i bought it. Was my first PC game ever too.

Phenomenal. Absolutely 100% the best single player gaming experience ive ever had.
