Best Retro Handheld

RG35xx Plus incoming on Fri.

Interested to see what the price will be.

I already have the RG35XX, doesn't initially seem like a worthwhile upgrade for slighty better performance and WiFi but for anyone buying a new device if it's still a bargain then definitely an interesting option.

I'd probably go for a Miyoo Mini Plus if I was getting a new, vertical budget device today so will be good to see how this stacks up.

Personally though I find most vertical devices a bit cramped, I had the 405m which also was just too small even though that's horizontal.

Shame as I just want a compact device that's easy to take around but comfortable to use for longer sessions too.

Leeeeeets gooooooo!

The dpad is apparently improved too. I never bought the original rg35xx, or countless other Anbernic handhelds so thought I'd dip in. Only slight concern is if there are any issues with it coming from Chyyyna.

Pulled the trigger on an Odin 2 last night... looks to be a brilliant device from all the positive reviews.

I went for the base model, considered the Pro but everything I want to do on it and more looks fine on the standard model.

When the lack of extra memory of the pro becomes an issue on the base I'd likely be looking for a newer device anyway.

Now just have to wait... arghh.

I am 100% a SteamDeck convert. It's spoiled my interest in retro handhelds though, because I don't feel there will ever be a need to get a new one.

Whilst it's only an LCD model everything is perfect on it. From 8 bit to Switch, emulation is spot on. I can finally play GC and PS2 on the go and with a new addon that I discovered last night it can even track my gaming time.

Add that to the fact it can play PC games (although I've not got a massive Steam library) and I don't see how it can be bettered. Obviously it would be nicer with a longer battery life but last night playing through WindWaker on the GC, I dropped the TDP to 6watts, limited screen to 30fps and it was predicting 6 hours of play. That'll do!

Whilst I love having the Steam Deck, for short trips on things like the train my RG35XX was great and dont really use it like I did before.

Purchased an RG35XX Plus, which looking at this review it looks like it'll support N64 out the box

And the move to OLED along with the die shrink on the new model seems to have improved battery life pretty significantly according to the reviews I've seen.

My only real issue barring the cost is the size, it's certainly a big fella.

Steam Decks are more like laptops though with gaming controls as you can do basically anything a laptop can.
AAA titles, stick Windows or another OS on it, run any software or just about an game. Its more comfortable than smaller handhelds for longer gaming periods - 2 hours or no problem. I did 2 hours on Skate 3 on Xbox 360 emulation. Worked great

Also too add, it has 2x trackpads. Right comes in handy for a mouse and left you can program as you need - another mouse or virtual menu for keyboard, function keys or anything you like. The trackpads are so useful for some games.

My Odin 2 pro arrived today.. Very impressed. It's played everything I've thrown at is, PS2 and 3x resolution no problem.. plastics feel much better than the Odin 1, and loving the side LEDs. (No so much the stick ones on a clear case.)

What have you tried PS2 wise? Some games dont run well for me on Steam Deck. Juiced, as an example.
