Best Retro Handheld

That's super impressive Goldeneye. My 351p just can't hack that at all. One of the tougher N64 games to emulate
I was surprised too. Luckily the good N64 games work great - Mario 64 Mario Kart, 007. 007 I say works good but there are slowdowns. Still very playable.
Some N64 dont work at all though, like Donkey Kong 64. I’ll do more testing today :)

Im not up to speed.
Is this a Windows device from Asus? Expensive Steam deck, but smaller.
What are the specs in comparison to the Steam deck?

In short.
Windows Machine
More Powerful than Steam Deck
No track pad
Runs quieter
Higher res screen, nicer screen
Similar size to the deck

It's worth it if you are getting the top spec Steam Deck, but not when you are looking at the £350 version.

Think I'll stick with my £42 RG35XX that can play Tetris and Mario Kart 64 on Batacera :D

In terms of the ROG ally look at ETA primes emulation video, it pretty much runs anything up to ps3 level, If the game is compatible with the emulator of course.

Originally ordered the Sports Red, but after seeing a preview on YouTube, swapped to Watermelon, which i think is the superior colour. Glossy red would scratched in no time.

Only have first impression from holding it, it's smaller than it looks. Feels really nice, good quality feel in the hand. Also, when you close it, it doesn't do the clap, but more a soft closing? almost feel like a soft closing in the kitchen cupboard. Not sure if it's just new joints or a feature, but still nice.

is the vita not the best handheld with cfw?
Personal preference, but I'd say not really. The vita's CPU isn't very strong and input latency is an issue. You can apply runahead in retroarch on many of the newer devices such as the Retroid Pocket Flip which makes inputs pretty instant and just like playing the 8 and 16 bit consoles on a CRT. Not to mention the ability to apply shaders. The vita is an old device and is really only any good at vita (obviously) and psp games.

Okay, set up the Retroid Pocket Flip...like, it's working but could still tinker it for hours to make it more to my liking but it was midnight by the time i finished. I followed a guide and the guide did a section on hotkeys mapping which I did something wrong and messed up all my buttons! Spent 30mins trying to figure out how why Mario wasn't jumping when I press A lol

In short

Pros
Nice screen
Good battery life (5hrs setting up and 50% battery left).
Comfortable layout, mostly.
Clamp shell
Bluetooth and wifi built-in

Cons
The sound is thin and not very loud. I am at like 80-90% most of the time.
ABXY could be larger, plenty of space for it.
L1/R1 might be awkward to use if you have chubby fingers.

Underneath is essentially a little mini tablet, I can go on the internet, watch youtube, and have access to Google Play Store.

The RG35XX was the gateway drug for sure!

A good few hours of setup for Sega Model 2 and Model 3. Purchased from these forums last week. Having to fight with settings for Dreamcast and N64 emualtion is a thing of the past. Wifi dongle to scrape, nope. Easy now

This looks nice and I did consider the RPflip but the size of the buttons and dpad put me off.
Why couldn’t they have made them bigger for adult sized fingers and thumbs? There’s a lot of space but the ergonomics looked a bit off to me.

There's already quite a few reports from people that part of the hinge on the Retroid Pocket Flip is already starting to crack.
I don't know whether this is generally down to the users being heavy handed with their devices or if there's a manufacturing flaw. Either way though, I can't see the hinge holding up long term.
