Best Retro Handheld

It really is! Probably the best made £50 device I have so far.

For that price it seems silly not to try it. I see you can emulate the screen effects too but you don't seem to be there (like the grid on Gameboy and scanlines).
Are there fake ones about or is it pretty much anywhere that sells them will be genuine? It seems like quite a low risk just to have a little mess around with for the price

Yes, it does scan lines and even the green colour for gameboy if you use custom OS. Video below, 25min mark.

It’s easy to install the OS, just download some zip files, unzip and then copy them over to an SD card. The video is a full guide to do it.

I got mine from AliExpress, from a seller called Ampown store.

Btw, if you get a no cards option, it comes with nothing. As well as sourcing your own Roms, you need to source the bios files. He lists them in the video and written guide, they can be found easily enough by just googling.

If you do get one with a card, although it might not have all the games that you like, they usually come with all the bios files already.

That's fine. I'm very aware where to get all these things from having a steam deck. I think I'm going to get one just to mess around with, this is how it starts, isn't it..

I've got a spare 128 gig and a 32 gig microSD lying around as well which is handy

Fantastic! Yes this is where it starts and you are starting arguably at the top. It has the nicest screen of all the other £50 devices. It makes all the others feel like a toy.

A 64gig card is as big as you will need for the trimui brick, 128g if you have lots of PS1 games.

32g is fine for SNES and below I think, especially if you have a more curated list of games to play.

I'm still rocking the original Anbernic RG35XX. Garlic OS on it and does the trick for me up to PS1. I may next year look at something that can do PS2/GC etc.

Apparently no one who ordered the coloured ones has been shipped yet (as of 4 days ago). So I don’t know how accurate the stock is currently.

Fair. It's been changed to shipped and I have tracking now. I very much doubt it will arrive before my time off end but that doesn't really matter.

I ordered purple, it certainly has shipped.

The only thing that worries me about this thing is how flipping small it is. I mean I can't remember how big an original game boy colour was but then I was also a lot smaller then.

Erm, I can't find the GameBoy but I have the next best thing. The box!

The picture on the box is the exact size of the real thing (same thing for crisps and chocolate, biscuits in Japan as well!).

Above and beyond that, thank you.

I regret selling my 3DS back in the day. It was such a great little device. I've often thought about getting another one just to play Zelda

No problem.

I would say the Brick whilst small, is playable, at least in small doses. I wouldn't sit there and play hours on Street Fighter, but I would think long sessions of turn base RPG like Final Fantasy Tactics would be fine, you can even play that one handed. I played about half hour during lunch today on Pocket Fighter and did feel it was very small for that kind of game to be comfortable.

That said, there is Bluetooth and a USB port, I could try to connect my Arcade Stick to it? lol

.....I wonder where the Game Boy has gone....

I’d never seen a Miyoo Mini in person before, but bought 2 second hand this week. Both arrived today, and are in great condition! £15 and £17!
Stock firmware, so I’ll put one on Onion to see what the difference is. These are for some cheap gifts for kids, so I don’t want to mess around too much with custom firmware if it changes a lot. Couple of Sandisk 32GB SD cards also arrived, to replace the stock.

Think I’m going to pick up a third one for myself, as they feel so cool. I’m too late to the party, but my old Retroid Pocket 2 (not + or S) is just too chunky and the stock android experience is straight-up trash. Late to the Miyoo party, but ready to play some games on one.

Edit: Creating a curated game library, and going through the process of getting decent box-art is quite enjoyable.
