Best Retro Handheld

Yeah the Brick, I find it awkward to use the back buttons which is fine, well not so much the L1/R1, the 2's.
I think ive used l2 / r2 in 1 game :D

Imo they didnt need back buttons at all, but get they’re useful as hotkeys (but there’s also two buttons front middle)

Yeh, would be more slick without any. Put the saved cost into something else instead.

No need for it but ordered myself a Miyoo A30 last night as they are now so cheap on AliExpress, will see if I prefer it to the original Miyoo Mini and probably gift on whichever one is my least favourite.

Does anyone know best place to buy pre printed solid grips for the RP5? I've seen ETSY but they seem to be in USA and charge £16 shipping charge.

Enjoying the Brick but not having much luck getting PS1/PSP games to work. Converted my PSP collection from pbp > bin/cue > chd but when launching it just throws a blank/black screen. Unable to get back to the menu screen or perform any other action and have to hold the power button for 10+ seconds to switch it off.

The best thing would be find a 3D printed file to download or purchase and ask someone in the UK to print it for you for a small fee.

Did it show up?

What colour did you go for? How have you found it?
Yes. Black. It is slightly smaller than I had envisaged but it is very well built and thus far plays all 8bit/16bit games flawlessly. I've previously used the RG300, which in comparison is tacky plastic, looks and feel-wise. Screen is very clear with a few filters available with the miniuiOS (but I'm sure this will improve with more options / compatibility etc). I understand crossmix is also available but lack some Brick specific features but I think I prefer the minimalistic miniui.

e: I suspect the smaller size may tire out my hands with prolonged sessions! This might not be the best device for grown men (:

Currently having issues getting any of my PSP collection to work but I suspect I'm doing the conversion wrong or somesuch from my original UMD rips / pbps.

e: I've been a groin. I'd copied the games to the PS and not PSP folder. All games work as expected!

Aye. The issue was I had them in that folder and none of them worked. When I moved them to the "Sony Playstation Portable" folder they then worked just fine!

As a side note, I did have that bios file, lowercased it and then deleted it. The games seem to launch without it?! Go figure!

I believe games do work without BIOS but are not as accurate. Probably similar to Pico-8 (fake-08 core is terrible)

I'll stick it back on then. Still playing about with it and trying to understand that settings etc as the miniui guide for the standard GBA/SNES stuff seemed pretty straightforward but clearly different emulators are used for PSP and N64 etc.

Yeh, still very new OS wise. But people are working on PAKs for many different systems for MinUI and multiple tools like Splore and Portmaster :)
Stock OS I didnt really bother and Crossmix i'll try it out when its officially released for the Brick.

Yes. I rather dimly assumed the Brick was solely an SD OS affair. However, I panicked after the thing refused stubbornly to power on. Removed the SD and held the power and volume down button and it powers in to something with a file explorer type GUI so I guess these customOS's are just layers that sit on top of whatever that is.

I suspect lots of new stuff coming, especially so as the Brick seems to be the new popular kid on the block. Whatever comes next I'm still happy with it as a GBC/A/SNES portable.

It has 8GB internal storage for OS which you flash parts of depending on what's on the SD card - e.g. You can flash a bootimage app to the 8GB storage to change the boot logo. Take the SD card out and it still boots with the updated image.
I play a lot of Chronomatic Tetris (GBC) on it. Works really well due to the size, screen and great dpad and buttons.

How are people finding the brick? I’ve just gotten rid of the Miyoo mini plus but I’m guessing it’s quite similar

Really good. The quality of it is way above the MM+ which I also sold. Vastly improved screen (but slightly smaller size) and performance. The main reason though is just build quality for the price.
I think CFW will vastly improve it in no time too - MinUI and Crossmix are already progressing fast.

Anyone here using Daisho as their frontend, and if so are you having issues with it scraping artwork for Gameboy?
Works fine for me on RP mini
