Beyond: Two Souls

Looking at one of the trailers, it doesn't sell the game very well to me. It seems like they dumbed down the game as much as they could. The developers mentioned something about user tests, seeing where people failed (i.e. they were bad at the game), and basically made it easier. The amount of QTEs that I saw wasn't exactly encouraging either.

Also, for the "blurs the lines of movie-making and gaming" quote given in the description, I play a video game to play it, not be guided through it with cut scenes and parts where I can't control the character.

These are the impressions I got from the trailer I watched.

Going by their previous games, this will be little more than an interactive movie guided by QTEs and timed sequences, with the odd walking around adventure game style section. See Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain -- I don't think that expecting much more interactivity than those would be a sound idea.

It's not for everyone, but I'm a sucker for a good story so this looks right up my street.

I think this game isn't for you.

The whole game is pretty much QTEs and it really is more like an interactive movie than a game.

Played the demo, quite enjoyed it. People who didn't like Heavy Rain probably won't like this either, but there is a lot more 'gameplay' to it than in HR e.g. the combat and a lot more freedom as to what you can do at any given time. Storyline and dialogue also seems a lot better and of course, having actual actors lending their performance to the characters this time at least means it should shake the B-Movie feel of Heavy Rain.

Looked great visually too, the section with Jodie running through the woods at night looked superb.

Nice feedback. Not tried the demo and I don't know if I want to (spoilers etc). Nice to hear that it has more gameplay. I was a fan of HR so I'm sure this is going to be excellent.

Quantic Dream make games that are more about the experience than the actual gameplay. They concentrate on story driven action adventure gameplay.

Some may not like this style but for me it's gaming heaven.... :)

Try the demo then, a trailer isn't going to tell you how the game plays.

I've got this one pre-ordered as I enjoyed both Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. I suppose Quantic Dream games are interactive movies as much as they are games, but I still felt a strong sense of involvement when playing their previous releases and found them both immersive & rewarding to play.

Interview with developer below describes some major differences in gameplay between this and Heavy Rain particularly when controlling the entity.

From what i've heard there are more significant choice decisions than in Heavy Rain which is great because that was one of my complaints about Heavy Rain.

Will try the demo as soon as i can.

Also apparently you cannot die? So does this mean Jodie is indestructable? Given that she is the main protagonist then how are they working this? In HR you controlled a number of characters (3 or 4 i think) and any of them could die and the story would continue(technically).

However this time round it seems the story is heavily focused on Jodie. So could mean the game is more linear than Heavy Rain. Because story <> Jodie whereas in Heavy Rain the story was not just 1 character.

Just speculating though.

Play the Demo and all will be revealed. I played the Demo three times and the game was different evepery time.

With the same conclusion though.

They did this with Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. They also re-used exact same dialogue.

Feels more QTE - ish than Heavy Rain to me. There was a lot of scenes where you are merely REACTING in an action scene. In Heavy Rain the pace was much much slower and this offset the QTE nature of the "gameplay" imo.

The Hunted scenes (anyone manage to evade the cops inside the train so you dont go through the jumping off roof and run through forest?
i tried to crash the motorbike...couldnt its on rails. i stopped it and the helicopter just hangs there over you (unless i didnt wait long enough and you get caught?)

Got a different scene when i let myself get caught at the bridge which was nice but like i said the conclusion is very similar (exact same dialogue)

Graphics are nice except i got purple and black chequered squares at the bridge motorbike scene...so it still feels a little glitchy.

The bits where you get to control Aiden are the best bits allowing for more creativity etc (though you cant change to Aiden anytime you like only when the script allows)

So it was ok but too many Dragons Lair esque QTE bits.

I like it because it is different and I quite like the on rails interactive story. GTA V bored me silly after a few hours.

I have not noticed any chequered glitch on any of my play through's ?

I think you have to really like these kind of games to appreciated them fully. For me Fahrenheit and Heavy rain are two of my all time favourite games.

My Special edition is awaiting dispatch now. :)

where from?

I ordered from Amazon months ago when the special edition was available.

£32.99 seems a bargain when places like Shopto have it for £44.99!
