I was just watching some gameplay from Badger (way more downt to Earth and seemingly genuine than LC, Jack and the like) on YT. I haven't been paying much attention up until now and I can't ay I'm convinced after seeing the footage.
It looks like a BF4 mod. A good mod, granted, but a mod nonetheless. Badger was running around with a UMP45 with a holo and an RPG (obviously two of the most recogniseable and widely used weapons, but bear with me) and other than the map and character skin, I could have been watching BF4. Killfeed is the same, deathscreen is the same (basically) and the map screen is the same. They couldn't even change the font?! I'm not totally hating on it, but guys, is there no imagination or inspiration left in these developers any more? It seems to have fallen the wrong side of the line separating "based on" or "influenced by" and "cosmetic reskin". Maybe the footage we're seeing is more BETA than it appears and that things will change. But, remember the BF4 footage at E3 last year? That was pretty indicative of the final game, right?
Also, I have a bit of trouble with the underlying premise. The whole, RPG, parachute base-jumping, run and gun, shooty bang-bang madness sort of fits in with a military setting, but police? The tones just seem... mismatched. I don't think we've even seen jets or anything yet, either. It's just going further from the theme. I don't know.
But again, I'll repeat: I'm not hating on whoever is developing the thing. I guess I'm just a believer in "stick to what you know". I'd hate to see any old drek being pumped out with BATTLEFIELD stamped in the box to sell copies, because goodness knows that business model works, regardless of the quality of the games themselves.
