BFG RMA question

Sent in my 8800GT hope I'll get something working back. Not a bad turn around given the time others have waited.

RMA Tracking
BFG RMA Status

Stage 1: Your full RMA number is 9********
Stage 2: Your RMA was received in the BFG Warehouse on 2010-02-25 05:54:04
Stage 3: Your RMA was processed in the BFG Warehouse on 2010-03-05 15:29:12 and has already shipped.

Posted my first ever RMA on a Graphics card to BFG. In all my years of building my own systems i have never returned anything so this is a completely new experience for me.

I contacted BFG and despite having some vague data from my side, they were extremely helpful in accepting it for an RMA. I have tried everything to get my 9800GX2 working i have had it for just over a year without issues. I tried to discover if it was infact my setup - tried it on another computer it was the same, anything that requires 3D is jumpy and gives me about 1 frame every 4 seconds. Did all the checks and it looks like a suspect gpu processor. I work in Electronics, so i know a lot about how they are manufactured and mostly work, I was shocked to see defects around the power pins on the inputs.

I posted my card too them on monday and it was signed for by M Alexander Monday morning. I paid £25 quid for 24hr delivery - i think i was robbed on the insurance excess to be honest and have no feedback or they acknowledge that the card has been recieved.

I more concerned that the address on the RMA label does not exist which caused me some concern and i had to enter it manually for booking collection and delivery online with ParcelFarce.

UPDATE

I phoned Wales on Friday and enquired whether they had recieved my card after 4 days with no update, then gave the woman on the phone the RMA number and she asked for a contact number, then that night checked the RMA progress link and then the status stated that it had been recieved.

Cheked last night for any update and it shows the RMA card has been sent with a FedEx tracking number and link. The link works but the tracking number is not valid. So i will have to email them to ask what is the issue this time, as other have stated it shows the part they have shipped to you.

I think it would be better to have some feedback as to the problem with the original card and to have a seperate email despatched to say what they are doing and for Wales to sort its processes out.

I guess in the experience of this whole episode I dont think i could ask anymore from BFG, i think anyone who is sending a card back should contact them directly if the RMA process is dragging on. I guess my card was an un-economic repair atleast for the UK, but will be returned to Nvidia for diagnostics or repair and then sent again as another RMA return or spares.

I think what they are offering beats the competition, i just hope that they dont go bust with all of the returns!

well considering they have dropped europe and are only operating here under their rma/support agreements isnt encouraging, how long can they keep that up b4 it become too expensive.

i just missed delivery of my card by 5-10mins from courier just now, rang them and they say he wont be coming back till tommorow.

arggggggggghghhhhhhh!!

Just rang Fedex to check why my tracking number wasnt working, turns out its duff - it should be a 12 Digit tracking number not 11. Support still have not emailed me the correct number despite the email too them, Fedex have tried to trace the package to the delivery address (my work) with only the first part of my postcode and surname (which is on the RMA ticket) ....nothing! Nothing has been picked up for me from BFG despite them issuing a tracking number say it was shipped on the 5th at 0900hrs!?!?

WTF is going on!

Ok...The link was to the US not the UK, so now i have a new? GTX285 OC+ So this will need to be fully tested, although it does smell like someone has just washed it detergent...Hmmm might be the cleaning issue i saw on my 9800GX2 that failed...oh well lets hope it work eh!

Thanks BFG!

caerleon, My latest FedEx tracking number was 11 digit and allowed me to track on their website. It just arrived with them this morning but BFG account not showing as anything been sent back to me as yet. I'd try ringing Wales again to confirm your card is on the way. If it is lost in the postal black hole they should send out another really.

Be interested to hear what you get back. I'm also trying to replace a 9800 GX2 and have received two (broken) GTX 280's in return so far. Performance wise it's a fair enough swap (I suppose?) but my main concern is that cards as old as this are almost certainly ex-faulty units. At least they claim to be testing the cards under load now.

Speak of the Devil. This just landed in my inbox.

Hi,

Been testing your replacement for 3 hrs now on farcry2 to 60.9 fps and no noise issues

The replacement ill be sending you is a 285 oc+.

Regards

Phil Adams

Fingers crossed. Knowing my luck they've been running the new NVIDIA drivers and fried the card. :D

In fairness, while the US folks have been kind of useless, Phil has been really helpful and clearly trying to finally sort things out for me. During my dealings with the Wales folks I have had the impression of some frustrations with the US mob.

I received a 8800 GTX yesterday, same model as my faulty card so no upgrade here but replacement card is very clean, infact looks and smells brand new.

Took 3 or so weeks but touch wood looks good at the mo. Thanks BFG :)

Why do some people end up with upgrades and some not? Some end up with REALLY good upgrades and some more of a sidestep.

I wonder what goes on over at BFG.

Oh and what are you guys using to test your cards when you get them back?

I was going to use furmark, but is there anything like prime 95 where you can see a fail?

Cool cheers.

EDIT:

Did you use GPU: OCCT test? Is it the "Error check" option that lets you know about errors? (I would assume so).

Did you run it for an hour?

Did you run the GPU memtest?
