Whilst I'm inclined to agree with you for that very reason, is it not true that many (I only have the XC myself) riders seem to go for slightly smaller frames with highly extended seatposts and extended stems, etc. - some say as small as 15-16" when they're >6ft themselves when the recommended is around 19-21" - due to the reason that they want a little leeway in terms of hurting themselves?

Not having a pop, genuine question.

What size frame do you go for yourself for full sus/DH?

lol - no. They ride bikes that dont fit them. I'd have to agree with SuperCow and it all depends on the discipline. Although, XC racers with twitchy steering - Not me. But then some people are different. Plus im not a XC racer, just take part in a few races. Competitive open cat.

The Midlands XC race tracks have down sections as steep and technical as any of the Cannock DH tracks. Riding those in race conditions on a 100mm travel, 580mm bar, very light bike is quite scary.

Not sure who that's aimed at. I have the upmost respect for XC racers because of this very thing. Loads of the "DH kiddies" will mock the Lycra boys and so forth, but that's just the kiddies doing what they do.

What Sillycow has said there is a little confusing, he is not saying that all DH riders buy a bike that is to big for them but that the geometries of DH bikes are very different to other full suss ones.

I am saying both :)
Apart from the inherent geo difference, if you were to give a DH racer a choice between a bike that's a bit too small for him, or one a little too big for him - the majority will go for the larger size.

Anyway, topic is getting boring now.. .MSA dried out in a day!

Lets hope the wet stuff stays away for the race this evening!

I just heard yesterday that I might be able to make it to France this year afterall!!!!

SO AMPED RIGHT NOW :D
watching endless amount of helmet cam footage now... can not wait!

So, what kind of bike will you be taking? :p;)
I'm interested in knowing what's the best bike for a trip out to the French resorts. Thinking about putting together a trip next year.

Most weekends when I head to a ski resort or holidays out to Whistler I'm on my 7" single crown freeride bike, but I've been thinking of changing it to a DH bike for a while now as it would suit my current riding better than the big hucking bike.

Is an 8" DH bike or a trail bike the most suitable for one of these trips?

Skinny steel frame f.t.w ;) It's already taken a couple of knocks from stones, but nothing thats got through the paint (yet)
Got the 7.5cm stuff so may end up trimming it a bit.

Hey all, I'm thinking of getting a full susser mainly for places like cannock, sherwood pines but some local trails too. I dotn really want to be going over the £2500 mark but will if the bike justifies it. I've got 3 in mind and was wondering which you recon or is there better to be had out there?

1st choice: Specialized enduro comp

2nd choice: Lapierre Zesty 314 (is the 514 really worth £500 more?)

3rd choice: Cube Fritzz pro

Have you ridden any of these? What about a Santa cruz butcher or Morewood Zula

Come now 6th ... you're one of the more experienced rider in here, surely you know the answer to this one?
My new DH bike should be with us soon ... hopefully! :D
I'm just not familiar with the trails in France though to know whether it's DH bike or a 5/6" bike territory if heading there on holiday. The video above suggests DH, so I'm presuming if you pick the right area to ride at there's all the DH you could need?

edit: I'll be posting lots more dumb questions on riding over there if I decide to do a trip :p

Again - you should know that anything is possible on a 5/6" bike.
If you stick to just the "main line" DH tracks, like pleney and Chevannes, then yea take your AM bike.If you want more comfort and hit things harder and faster, then take a DH bike - Simples?

LOAD of Singletrack out there too, which is perfect for the smaller bike.

No one was jumping down your throat.

I have some Zula's in stock in the warehouse with your name on it if you want it! :)

Okay, let's just forget the misunderstanding ever happened. :o

I would love that Zula but I fear it's wasted on me at the moment as I wouldn't be able to get to trials easily, not can I store it inside. My Arserider is stuck outside with a cover over it. Unfortunately, don't have the space for another bike whilst I'm living here!

Indulge me though, how much? :p

The retail on them is £2800, but if you ever are interested, you can gimme a call and we can arrange for something a bit less than that ;)

It's my first new toy Nix. :)

I originally ordered a 'Claud Butler' but after reading some reviews it would seem that they're in the "cheap budget brand" I ended up ringing up and changing my bike choice, this bike was £60 more expensive but due to lack of stock and making me wait longer for delivery they waived the extra £60 :D

So I ended up paying £539.99.

Excellent. :)

The Talon 3 was one I definitely considered at the time. Got myself a Rockrider 8.1 2010 in the end as I emailed the Lakeside store and they reduced it from £500 to £450. I was originally looking at a Cube Ltd Pro for ~£800! Decided I'd go for a cheaper bike and spend the rest on gear. It soon adds up! :o

What's great is that your photo there is better than the stock photo on the Giant website itself (derp)!

What are you planning on using it for?

Wow. :o

All I can say is, if in a few years I'm in the market for one in that range and you're still in business, I may well be in touch. Can't justify it at the moment though. :(

Where's the price come from anyway? Is it the frame, name or other?
