one of these will be mine in a couple of weeks, but i don't know what to choose...

GT Avalanche 2.0 with Tecktro Aquila Hydro's, 24 speed Shimano Deore, Suntour fork, 100mm travel + lockout (which i want) - can get for £385

Or....

Giant Terrago 2007, same set up near enough except Deore 27 speed, probs about £350

Choices choices :(

Get the GT. I have the 2006 Avalanche 1.0 Disc and she is the dogs whatsits. My wife has the GT Avalanche 3.0 and that's a nice bike too...

Most peoples beef with the GT is the Triple Triangle frame. I love the way it looks and it makes the bike strong and light too.

Also, owning a GT is great because every other bike on the road is not a GT so it feels unique...unlike owning a Specialized :D or Giant :p

I am thinking of going on a mountain biking holiday;

Anyone tried http://www.sierracycling.com/ looks really nice and friendly - guestbook also seems like they've had happy customers and also stunning weather. Close enough to anything I would need really...

I would be taking my own bike probably and I am an intermediate rider, would probably be alone too. Anyone tried trips like this before?

Guys,

Like many people i am lokoing at getting a mountain bike for the first time. I've had a look round, mainly at the GT's GTX's and Spealized's ranges. But I have also come accross a company called Canyon, and it looks like they have a few decent bikes, i've been mainly looking at this one;

Bike

For the price it looks like it has a lot of top range parts, any one of an opinion?

Looks nice, but can you get a test ride? I'd never buy a bike unless I have riden it. Take for example, my GT Avalanche. The geometry can be a bit strange and not suit everybody, but after riding I found it to be spot on. You'd be a bit miffed if you sepnt £1000 on a bike and it didn't agree with you.

Also, if you want to spend that much for the love of god buy an Orange!

I am, it just looks much better than the Giant, going to put my deposit on it tomorrow :D

What do you think of the weird frame design?

I thought the standard answer was Thomson stem and WTB or Specialized saddle? :D

After a superb long weekend of riding in fantastic conditions out in the wilderness I splashed out today. I'm still waiting on my frame for the full sus build... So for something different I bought a new road bike and accessories, slightly trigger happy with the purchases, the bike is full SRAM Force groupo, new Giro Atmos helmet, road shoes and pedals worthy of the bike and some other bits and pieces. Mucho dinero :D

edit: yeah I meant seatpost, but then I have their stems too :D

I dont have a budget for a £50+ seatpost. I have like £210 to last a month and need at least £100 in parts.

Looks like a decent seatpost that wont break like my last one......the bel air is the cheap version....the decent one is £40 with the lighter one being £50.

what you guys think of the Azonic B52? Thinking of swapping my big hit for one..

Edit - Also what about the Orange 222/223? They any good, whats the difference between them and the 224?

I love it. It's quirky and makes the bike look different from almost all the other hardtails on the market.

Then again the GT count at Chez LordSplodge is two - so I guess I like it as does the wife!!!

EDIT: I have posted this before, but how can you not love this? It is so pretty! :D :p

Well done! Hope it brings you years of fun. The gearshifts on my 1.0 are some of the smoothest I have ever had. Mind you matched LX kit at each end of the drivetrain helps...

Looks like a nice frame.....will probably ride a lot different to the bighit though.

I think the 222/223/224 basically got lighter and the angles changed slightly. I think the rear end went to bolt through on the 223(i think it was already bolt through on the 222 though?) but went to 150x12 rear end on the 223/224. I dont like them so dont know that much about them.

Dont know why but you can hear a 22x coming because they are so damn rattly! :o

I love my Cape Wrath. I've upgraded most of the parts now, but the frame has really great geometry for me and is really strong. It'll last you a good while if you take care of it. Get new forks though. :p
