The Giant has front lockout, but less travel. It also has Deore gears.

The Diamondback has more travel on the forks (but I can't see lockout mentioned), looks better than the Giant (:p), but only comes in a 20" frame. Oh, and I've found the Diamondback for £314 which is slightly less than the Giant.

I'll see if I can track down the frame dimensions...

I like the look of the diamondback better....but there is no denying how much i ******* hate alivio mechs and shifters! The deore mech is ok and shifters and a lot better then alivio IMO.

The quad brakes are basiclly cheap hayes......so your basically getting cheaper versions of the hays sole! :eek: . the brakes on the giant are two piston so have a better feel IMO. Levers do look a bit camp but they do the job.

So technically the Terrago is better then? As I thought. It's a shame because I really love the look of that Diamondback. :p
 
I'd get the Diamondback. You can always upgrade the parts as and when you need to, plus it has an internal headset which I prefer.

Have you looked around for it in 21"?
 
in process of collecting parts together for my new bike build going quite well so far. but wanted peoples opinions, on disc breaks HOPE most likely mins or AVIDS but dont know which ones.
 
as I'm about to get the black spire chain guide stuff, I'm not onto my next mission, forks, I really like the rockshocks pikes, but they have an axel, can you spec me a front wheel for them, that can stand up to tough stuff? like atom labs or similar?

I can't find it anywhere online in 21". This is the store where it was cheapest:

Unfortunately they don't specify the frame size. I've emailed them to confirm.

What's an internal headset? :o

Oh, and is it easy to upgrade components such as derailleurs and cassettes?

i think it just looks better, spec is almost the same except the GT only has 24 speed instead of 27, though the hydro brakes are better i think. Just search google for GT avalanche 2.0 2007 and reap the rewards lol

Stop copying my wheel combos :(

I hope you made sure it hant been cracked and repairs mate.Think they are prone to cracking at the downtube shock mount....and possibly at the shock end of the swingarm. Should be lighter than the bighit though! :D

^^ Dirty stinking UPS didn't deliver my new road bike today, even though I was at home waiting. Fedex also performed the same trick, didn't even try to deliver a package :(

An Internal headset is a headset which fits inside the headtube rather than sitting at the top and bottom of it. It works in exactly the same way but I think it looks better.

Upgrading parts is dead simple and if you're not sure exactly what to do just by looking at what's on already, you'll be able to find plenty of guides online.

Nah frame is solid. Just hope i dont crack it after hearing some of the storys. Should be lighter and easier to chuck around than the big hit. Really cant wait now :D

i noticed that, i went to my local dealer and they were quite happy to accept £380 for one though, or give me £35 worth of extra equipment, i'd suggest you do the same, you even get to get a feel for the bikes too. The Gt felt really solid and the lock out is a godsend for road cycling :)

Hmm I suppose that's something to consider. I'm already over budget at £325 to be honest but I might pop down to the local bike shop this weekend. Some free kit would be very nice indeed. :)

Did you just quote the online price and they bettered it? How did you persuade them? :p
