Hoping you guys could help spec me a bike to start out on.

Budget: £400 (Maybe £500 if its a massive difference)
Usage: Trips up to Kielder

Not too keen on going second hand. Anything you's would recommend?

Haven't used a bike in about 5 year! So should be entertaining to say the least.

half my bike:D:D:D

I've not had any hits in my orbea for sale.

Case in point - one of the best rated AM bikes around atm - and little interest in it

I've been looking at selling my pitch. Crazy that going by sold prices on ebay it's going for the same price I paid for it and more. Some people on pinkbike looking for crazy do. Still not sure if I want to sell it :(

The Pitch is another one of very popular bikes, that just hold their value. Same happened to two friends of mine, ending up selling them for more than they paid for them.

Had my virgin encounter with forest of dean yesterday. I dont know if it was because of how wet and swampy it was there or I'm just a big ghey but I think I soiled myself in the morning I was that scared of the trails! We did everything except Mr Rooty. I think I liked corkscrew the best, then maybe G.B.U.

I cant really remember the track that well as I was with 2 dudes who have done 6 years in a row going morzine in the summer for a few weeks so they were fast and furious and just trying to keep sight, let alone keep up was nearly impossible.

Only had 1 bad off and that was one called endo, I hit
a down too quick and couldnt slow down for the turn/berm and went straight over the bars and just slid for ages it seemed.

The pikes are awesome now they've been tftuned, felt like a different fork.

My bottom bracket died half way through the day so need a new one, but gxp are supposed to be cack anyhow.

Would like to try forest of dean in the dry as it was so hard in the wet.

We only did the uplift stuff. Managed 7 runs in the morning and did 5 in the afternoon, but the others carried on for 2/3 more after me. Needed the jet wash and didnt want to que when everyone else would be finished.

I'm trying to upload some footage but it's having time to do it! Sorted my bike earlier as I felt sorry for it dumping it back in the shed after such a spanking. Ordered a new gxp bb from chain reaction for £20 so cant moan, had a year from this one.

Mannnnn i hate indexing gears why cant i get it right! something has to be wrong somewhere! but new rear mech, new cable, new hanger.. just dont know what else!

Have you managed to use these in the wet/mud yet? I was thinking of one for the rear with a mountain king two at the front.I've read that they're a bit slippery on roots/rocks.

Late reply due to not enough time on them to answer -I found the Rocket Ron on the front didn't skip a beat but the rear RR tended to trailer a bit, no roots so far more rock/mud/hard wet trail.
I think mine are 2.1 though so relatively narrow.

Perfect for this:

struggled a bit with the back end on this:

starting to think about new bikes for next year.

pretty happy with most of the components so the plan is a new frame and move stuff over.

option 1 - i have the option of a really cheap 2014 ariel 16x

option 2 - try and pick up some 0% on a 2015 spitfire

the question im really struggling with is would my sektors (150 currently lowered to 130, 15mm maxle, 1 1/8th not taper) be man enough for either?

if not then option 2 may be more feasible as i could look at adding some pikes to the 0%.

thoughts? dont want to change from 26", new wheels would be a stretch too far. would still like to ride uphill etc.

The Spitfire gets my vote of course.
Honestly, about 7 of my riding group (luckily we all don't head out at the same time, we'd look like right plonkers), all got the spitfire after trying it out. It really is that capable, fun, rewarding silly-grin type bike.

Underdog, punches far over it's weight, not all too pretty looking... perfect for me :D

I'm battling at the moment with a decision to let mine go or not. I have mentioned in this thread before, that I'm moving to Australia and will be selling up the DH bike. The area I'm going to has some decent uplifts though, so would still want something that I can use as "Mini DH" (wtfever that really means) but will also pedal all day long.

I'm toying with the idea to buy a Santa Cruz Nomad, just because it is very light and 165 travel, so might* be able to get away with more than the spitfire does... though I'm not too sure about it.
Why not try mine out - you;re not too far form me are you?

edit: Missed the other question - you would be doing an injustice to the bike, if you put the Sectors on it, but ultimately, the geometry will allow for it to work fine.

You ride Swinley now and then don't you?
Could always meet up there when I'm back on it.

edit: in fact, next time we head out to Surrey Hills - that would be a better test anyway
