Yeah a lot of people have the HD wear problem. I think I'm lightweight enough that I've not really suffered from it. High Roller 2 should be more durable, personally I'd probably have that on the back with a Minion DHF on the front if I went Maxxis. I have an irrational reason not to choose them though.

PS: Hello Deon :)

I hate trying to pick a tyre. I want to try something lightweight next i can sacrifice some grip as well.

What are Maxxis Advantage like for standard trails? Probably get some high rollers for the more agro stuff.

I've seen it on numerous examples - I guess how gnarly you ride and how beefy you are may contribute a lot, but same people on different tyres are getting better wear.

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear enough. I need to make a decision on tyres for my new full-sus bike. My current bike has a Minion DHF and Ardent.

I could go for the same setup, but was wondering if there was another tried-and-trusted combo that I should consider instead.

It's hard to beat that combo - down to personal choice / terrain from there.
I have a Specialized Purgatory rear and butcher front, but in the thick Grid casing (the standard ones are wafer thin.)
Really like the combo, but coming off a Hans Dampf, they look a bit narrow in comparison.

That shan look nice.

On the subject of wheel size, does putting a 26" on a 27.5 frame look odd?

Won't look weird, but will throw the geometry of the bike off. Higher BB as a result being the main one (for me) etc.

Not fair, my e-espionage doesn't show me who you are?

Mine took a pounding lots of visits to Lee Quarry and Snowdon. But still my old High Rollers used to fair better.

Its really bugged me that all of a sudden they decided 27.5 was the way to go. Its just pointless for 99% of people. Surely something like a 26" 2.5 is the same or there abouts as a 27.5" 2.1, could always run an offset bush.

But it can get costly, I have some maxxis wormdrive i might give them ago they will fly round, no grip but they will fly. Will look daft as well being 1.9 tyres.

I've got the HR2 2.2 and Ardent 2.4 on the Bird.

At super low pressures (17 19~) they are super super grippy. Really confident inspiring, ragging it round a bermy trail last week and you could hear them stick to the trail was awesome.

Running them anything high though, because easier uphill!, then they get a bit sketchy. I can only assume most tyres are like that but my Hans were much nicer at a higer pressure and yet again were on a different bike so hard to compare!

Can't seem to sell these damn forks! Tempted to get a bargain 26" FS frame and make a cheap bike. Regret selling the Pitch already :(

Went to the MOSI to see the 3D printing exhibition - now I really want a 3D printer!

Some info about the bike

I would save telling you until Surrey Hills tomorrow but I'm not gonna be there sadly! You will know me by the trail of dead Shan 917 and Yeti SB-66, it's Mike :)
Oh hi bud!

Talk about a lurker here eh - you been registered ages, don;t say much :D

Today was a bit crap. The new bike felt great, but I ballsed up the jump line next to Evian. Thought the first gap was a bombhole and faceplanted hard :p

ps: Your kids is adorable on the Production Privee pushbike! Put some pics on here, or at least with the Shan / pushbike next to one another.

Yeah... I kinda forgot about the place, didn't even know I had an account!

Sorry the day didn't pan out so well - is the bike OK? My shoulder's still too ***ed to even consider doing that jump line, not that it wouldn't be outside my fully-fit comfort zone anyway.

And, since you ask!

It's probably wrong to say this about my own gear, but so awesome. Just got to wait for the little dude to grow a bit bigger now, and try to avoid being Pushy Dad about getting him to like riding it.

edit - crap, sorry that's such a big image guys
