Went to Rogate on sunday
It was good

rode the main line mostly as was funnes
top bit of rogate seems underused ? most people just riding bottom half
think im going to spend most of this summer riding either here or Tidworth as its the kind of stuff I like the most - short / fun runs with jumps

I never made it to Brogate on Saturday...struck down with man flu yet again :(

About rock gardens - for a well built rock garden, there's no point in trying to pick a line through. Best plan is just to "point and shoot" - just know where you'd like to enter and look at the general area where you would like to exit. Your body and bike will react accordingly if you're carrying enough speed.

As soon as you look at the thing and look at your line, you've already lost so much speed and stability, you might as well put your tampon back in and walk around it.

although my experience of rock gardens is limited, i have to agree on the concept. i always find i ride technical sections faster the first time as i dont really know what im expecting. the next time(s) i tend to over think what im doing.

Yeap.
imagine trying to move the front wheel through the myriad twists and turns in a rock garden - you'd be of balance in a second.

I thought that's where the little gerbil hides and runs around on his wheel :(

Quite possibly a gerbil, or a large hamster! :D

Has anyone got any experience with a TR500?

Very very limited - can only really comment on the sizing. At 177CM (that's just about 5.10" in ancient speak), I would have opted for a large.

This is actually pretty helpful, I'm 173CM (Just under 5.9") and I was unsure if I should go for a medium as per the sizing chart or a large. The only transition I've ridden in a large is a blindside which has considerably more reach than the large TR500.

Its on my shortlist of possible frame upgrade, after sitting down with myself I've spent the last 12 months riding gravity so I'm pointing in that direction - the TR500 seems to be a playful DH rig that wouldn't be out of place at a more tamed bike park. Would you agree?

You can play around with the geometry a fair bit - good looking bike that ticks all the boxes certainly. at 173 I'd think you'd certainly be on a medium though. Don't think you're right about the blindside though, a mate had one years ago, and while it was a sack of dung, the geo didn't seem long either?

Another bike I'd fully recommend and think will suit exactly what you need, is a Banshee Darkside. Rode one a fair bit over the summer and fell in love.

...and then you can play with the different drop outs ( 26" and 27.5"), as well as the 3 position L / M / H setting :D

This is how every Darkside / Spitfire owner rides

Yeah you might be right on the blindside, I just checked the geo and its not far off. That darkside looks good, according to the specs the geo is a bit longer on that one so I'm guessing you rode a medium? Still unsure if I did go for a TR500 then I'd be better off on a large.
Its the kind of bike I'm looking for though.

I rode a large Darkside that had a really short 35mm stem on it. I had plenty of standover clearance.

Definitely try demo the Tranny first, you're pretty short and wanting something like a "park bike", going for a large at over 1200 (1212 with the Dc forks) wheelbase might be a miss.
