Finished building this on friday night, took it out for a shakedown on saturday, crashed it  But it's some machine, I'm incredibly chuffed with it

No damage done to the bike, luckily I softened its landing with my spine. Thank you 661 for chicken wings elbow pads!

Well, I took delivery of this on Saturday. I'm not suffering from any buyers remorse so that must be a testament to how good I think it is. :p

That's a picture not long after it arrived, so that isn't my preferable seat position. Also, forgive the pedals and chain, I forgot!

Specialized Pitch Comp '09

I'm ready to order a Pitch but i'm not sure if I need a medium or large. There are none local that I can try, my LHS has now run out of the Comp version!

I'm 6ft and ride a 19" rockhopper which fits very well. Does anyone here who rides a Pitch / Enduro SL think I will fit on a Medium?

That Pitch in the picture is a medium; I'm a shade under 6ft with a 32'' inside leg and I find it a nice size.

Yeah Boardmans are superb value for money, not sure it's £2k value but still a great spec for the money.
The only problem is you have to buy them through halfords and I think I would rather pour bleach into my eyes than suffer their customer experience.

This month's issue of WMB says it is :D

Good point about Halfords, but I'd buy the bike and then get a LBS to safety check it for me, and give them the cash to do so. Still quids in afterwards with that component spec! :)

Thanks for the advice chaps. I'm not going to be purchasing until June/July so it's a way off yet!

I managed to mash my front mech (again!) on Sunday. I've tried everything to get it to change gears (followed many articles online and youtube videos) but I think it's a bit twisted although it looks OK. My LBS has a waiting list of 5 weeks until they can look at it! Tempted to buy another front mech and fit it myself, they are only £40 which isnt as expensive as I thought it would be.

Can anyone recommend a decent bike shop in or around the Newcastle area that don't have obscene waiting times like M Steels do?

Cheers

Exactly what Im thinking of doin. I do have a decent LBS. The guy has been there forever. Very helpfull with everything.

Upto now the Boardman is top of the list.

yeah like SDK mine only just got it so only stuck it on I wont get to ride on it until Friday. My lbs shop guy has had one on his R9 for a while now and said he was very impressed with it.

Ahh so you went for the Cotic afterall? It's a nice bike mate, how are you finding it compared to your Scandal?

Also, how difficult are white grips to keep clean! :o

it's night and day compared to the Scandal... But to be fair, I put this mainly down to On One's pitch being a bit, er, optimistic, it just didn't work that well with the 130mm fork despite their claims. I think if you just ignore all that, it's an ace frame but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone for a longer fork. The front end was just so wayward on climbs, the seatpost's too slack and the weight's too far back, but it's not strong enough to really make use of that on the way back down.

But the Soul's something else, it does all the hardcore hardtail stuff while still being fantastic on the way up. Love it to bits, it just seems to egg me on, so I find myself jumping stuff I'd have rolled, picking the daftest lines, and carrying way more speed than I even do on my mate's Heckler... It just suits me right down to the ground. And it weighs less than my mate's race Kula too :D

The grips are, of course, a godawful ****er to keep clean  But I like the look. I just give them a big squirt of mucoff then scrub them with my trusty tesco's dish-scrubbing brush and they come up OK.
