Any opinions on the Scott Sportster P1 2009?

Looks like quite a poor spec for it's price.

Look at the Genesis Core 30 / Trek 6500 / Boardman Comp / Focus Black Forest which are all cheaper but with better specs.

Only takes a few weeks practice m8, then you get used to them.

I still however have the odd "miscalculation" now and again when approaching junctions and still clipped in. :D :p

Ive had one fall with the clips. Out with my lad on the cycle track, unclipped left foot but leant to the right and over i went.
Have the tension set very light, but still enough that i dont pull my foot out on hills.

personally i would'nt go xtr atleast on the chainset, the chainrings are very expensive to replace once they wear out. unless you can afford it then great :)

xt chainset, cassette, mechs and shifters with xtr cables and chain is my preference, the xtr cables don't stretch as much as xt and the xtr chains are good for 1000+ miles before .75 on a stretch meter tool.

minus the rear derailleur which I already have.
Complete drive train minus the RD

Cassette : Shimano XT M770 - £58 (I prefer 11-34T for a wider range)
Crankset : Shimano XT M770 - £170
Front derailleur : Shimano XT M770 - £35
Chain : SRAM PC971 - £21

Total : £284

Might as well get SLX shifters, they're the same internals as the XT and half the price. XTR Gear Cable Set can be had for ~£18 and I'd go for the KMC X9L chain, as its lighter and cheaper than any of the sram and shimano stuff mentioned above. Should be able to pick an XT Cassette up for <£45.

XT M770 Cassette: £43:

SLX Shifters: £39: (Gone up!)

What sort is on there now and what clamp size? Does the derailleur swing down below the clamp or above it, does the cables come down into the derailleur from the top tube, or up from the down tube?

Anyone got opinions on replacement M770 chainrings? For the price of Shimano chainrings I might as well get a whole new SLX chainset!

All I know is the quoted specs of the bike. The cables are under the bottom tube coming up to the top of the mech. I don't know how it swings though.

(btw why are their forums invite only? dodgy goings on?)

It may be just a customer support forum. If you buy online you may well still end up paying labour costs as some parts require specialist tools and some previous knowledge. You already have an XT rear mech so I would be looking at the matching gearing to that for the rest
