All I know is the quoted specs of the bike. The cables are under the bottom tube coming up to the top of the mech. I don't know how it swings though.

Top swing ones mount on to the frame below the shifting mech. Bottom swing mount on the frame above that part.
Bottom swing XT look better IMO but can get in the way of bottle cages etc. Pretty sure XT and XTR stuff is dual pull so the cable can come from above or below.
E-type ones mount on the bottom bracket.

It's pretty straight forward mate, and you get good instructions with Shimano stuff.
Hardest bit will be the bottom bracket. You'll need a tool to get the old one out and a £10 tool to put the hollowtech 2 one in. Maybe get bike shop to do that for you. it could need facing.

Mechs are a lot easier to set up than they look. Follow the instructions and you can't really go wrong IMO
Learn how to do it yourself and then you'll know how to adjust and maintain it :)

Just clean everything up really well with degreaser and then lube it back up properly. Chains come prelubed from the factory so don't clean a new one or add more lube

Just had a phonecall from the police..... they have recovered my stolen On one pompino (stolen back in march!!!!)

cant believe it! well chuffed.

Result!! Bet you are pleased.

Did they also get the scroat that pinched it or did it just turn up somewhere?.

Ah well, still a good result though. ;)

Spare fixie then or stick it on that well known auction site since you have already been using a replacement?. :p

it was dumped in someones garden, and they handed it in.

I spoke to the police about insurance, they said to notify them (which i will) and generally they wont do anything as i have already bought a bike with it and used it for three months.

but having just googled this http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/insurance-paid-out-but-goods-recovered-34796.aspx

it seems that i do not own the bike anymore....

oh well, my new langster is lovely anyway.

A guy I ride with had his Orange 5 (plus other bikes) nicked. The Police got it back after it appeared on eBay. He'd already had an insurance payout but then negotiated with his insurance company and bought it back off them for a good price. IIRC, it was going to end up at an auction house if hadn't bought it back.

My mate had his £1500 road bike nicked a while ago, which insurance paid out for. It then got recovered in exactly the same condition (mint) 3 days after insurance paid out and they sold it back to him for £75!

doing some quick reading around, the recovered bike is now the insurance company's. They may offer to sell it too me, or they will auction / scrap it.

Still, i am glad a theif isnt riding it anymore, and in the end i have a good replacement (although the langster is very tarty!).

Slightly off topic, have you been riding a fixed/single for a while?.

Do they take a bit of getting used to after a roadie with gears?. I just can't imagine riding something with only one gear unless it was in the middle of a city or something?. Especially considering my commute and local roads which can be quite hilly!!!.

I know this has been asked a billion times, but who's the best mtb insurer? I can only find road bike insurers, or do they cover both?

I'm thinking of emailing some to get a good quote now that I have a bike worth insuring!

And to compound that, who are the best road bike insurers in your opinions folks?. Anyone particularly good?. Any of them offer any sort of breakdown/punctured-and-I-have-no-spare-inner-tubes type deals?. :p

I'm with Norwich Union. Insured for 3k outside of the home and 5k inside. That includes "accidental damage". All for 300pa. This includes my Heckler, laptop and PC.

Also, anyone see this in this months Cycling Plus mag? :-

My FP1 is paid for on the Cyclescheme this August and I was thinking of going for one of the new Ribble Sportive's this time but this Bianchi has me drooling.......

Haven't seen any indication of possible UK prices yet though I don't think it will be cheap, going by the price the current top of the range C2C Carbon commands.

I am with E&L insurance it is very reasonably priced and I have not found many bad reviews.

I have been riding fixed for a couple of years now, and i have never once had an issue. The first half hour or so is weird, but just drop your seat half an inch so you cant be tempted to lock your legs. Once your used to it, you wont have to think about not pedalling.

Hills hurt more for sure, but then when you go back to the road bike, you'll fly up them!
