It's pretty much all waymarked up now, there are a few bits that still have laminated paper signs but for the most part it's done.

Basically you can't get lost there anymore unless you're blindfolded.

In other news, tomorrow I'm off to ride two awesome bikes. Will report back after the weekend.

Will be interesting seeing the difference in rear mechs compared to the current alivio. Also 9sp vs 8sp.

Lee Quarry is rubbish. Get yourself to Gisburn.

And as if by magic...

Gisburn!

I think I need to be fitter.

Scrap that, I know I need to be fitter. Bike is awesome though, so very much better than me :D

lul, I don't fancy a potential 6 hour return journey just to get to the trail and back :D

I can get to a nearby station (Long Preston) and ride from there, it's about 7 mile and pretty much one B road, so should be easy enough to get to (touch wood). Now that the way markers are in I think I'm gonna give it a look in, would go tomorrow but Leeds Festival is on this weekend and I don't want to risk arriving at the station with a large bouncy bike and no chance of getting on the train :(

Would anyone be up for a trip sometime in the week/next weekend?

Well its a bank holiday tomorrow! Is everyone going to be out riding? Where you heading to? I am currently deciding between the North Yorkshire Moors (open country) and Dalby (trail centre)

I rode 2 trails at Coed Y Brenin yesterday, I was planning to ride tomorrow as well but even though I’m off work I need to complete some things for Tuesday :(

But, i'm hitting all of the decent 7Stanes trails from 10th to 16th September so it's not all bad :) :)

general chain question, should my chain have a lot of sideways movement? i.e i can push the chain sideways so it touches my rear wheel, chain is set up right, but im wondering if its past it now.

Get yourself a chain wear indicator, my X-Tools one cost less than a fiver from CRC. Does the job perfectly.

Back from my trip away now, I was riding two Intenses, a Tracer and an Uzzi in Keilder Forest...

The Tracer was a pretty XC setup, Fox 32s, skinny tyres and air shock. The Uzzi was set up with DHX 4, RS Totems and 2.4" Mountain Kings.

I started on the Tracer, as the trail starts uphill, it was pretty squirrelly because of the skinny tyres and the 32s where slightly over pressurised making the ride very jarry, not what I'm used to, even on my HT. It did feel light, and it was good at climbing, but I wasn't a fan of the over-all set up.

I did a few bits of down on the Tracer and it didn't inspire much confidence set up as it was, it really needed slackening on the front by a degree or so.

When we got to the top, I switched onto the Uzzi. I immediately felt like I was on a bike that could take me downhill faster. There was a little bit of climbing left, pretty steep stuff with rock slabs to get over. Because the Uzzi squatted more when standing, it helped when hopping up onto the slabs and the bigger tyres dug in more on the rain loosened stones. It was heavier climbing, and you could tell the difference between the two bikes but everything was still do-able, just slower. The front end gave me no problems, keeping my weight over the forks when necessary meant the bike handled well even in tight, slow turns.

Hitting the down hill, following Mike from the bike shop now on the Tracer, the Uzzi just flew. Jumps, drops, berms I was hitting everything faster and jumping higher than I ever had before, on a trail I don't know and on a bike I've never ridden before. I was keeping up with an ex-DH racer! That really says something to me: "Sort yourself out and get one of these". I had a huge grin on my face at the bottom, something that I know I wouldn't have on the Tracer. Not with a 32 on the front anyway.

My plan now is to try and get myself on a Tracer set up how I'd have it, 36 TALAS, coil rear, 2.3-2.4 tyres and see how I feel on that. I don't think the grin factor would match up to the Uzzi though, that thing just tears down anything.

Didn't spend a great deal of time there, and only did the old red route once. From what I saw it's very good, worth spending the time to ride it all. There are a few technical bits and lots of flowy downhills and the climbs are interesting and not too bad.
