Haha, it's actually ironic as I started commuting the 15 miles from West London to the City on a cheapo Halfords MTB in baggy clothes with super thick tyres....

Don't tell me, you now train on a Bianchi 928 C2C, commute on a Wilier La Triestina 2010 Mirage and keep a Rio Monster w/Dura Ace for best?

Well the bike refresh has begun!

Out is the Malt 4 frame, and in is a loooovely matt black Cove Handjob, which is heading from Sunset-MTB in Cardiff as they would price match other shops on the 09 and means my money stays in Wales :p

And the Team Reba's are sitting in Stendecs workshop after popping up to see him this morning. Lovely guy with all the time in world for a chat and some advice, and his prices for us who don't/cant home service are pretty much the cheapest around, so anyone in the future looking for a personal touch to their forks service check him out.

Yes, the Wilier is also a training bike. Do you want pictures of all with some bread :D?

I don't need bread, and I've seen the pictures on BR. Congrats on the weight loss btw, that's amazing.

Thanks :) That was the original driver, but it's ended up being almost an obsession. The ROI I barely use, I just love looking at it like its a work of art. I plan on mounting it on a wall of my "home office" in my new place haha.

There are a lot of people I know who have done similiar, local hairdresser who got me in touch with the Bike Whisperer (superb mechanics in West London!) lost more through cycling to work. Saying I save money by not needing a travelcard is funny because I have spent 1000s on bikes and equipment in the past year.

After I buy new place, I have plans to get a couple more steeds, another training bike (probably a Viner or a Focus Cayo) and another commuter (won't be as extravagant as the Wilier). Also looking at a Planet X pink carbon bike for the bird.

Got myself some of these today:

Pitty they are going to be covered by my overshoes for a good few months yet. :(
Cant wait for summer.

Buying advice needed,

what computer/speedometer do you guys use? Always intreigues me how far i ride.

Been looking at some of the cheap £15 one's from CRC, are these tough enough to handle xc and light DH??

If not what's the best one to recommend? Max of £20 really.

You pay more for more functions. Any bike computer will record mileage. I recorded a day of DH at Whistler once on my Garmin 705, I think I did 50 miles but that included riding the ski lift too :D

If for some obscure reason I wanted to record mileage on my DH bike I'd want the computer to be as cheap as possible so when I crashed it it launched into the woods or broke I wouldn't care.

I have a garmin forerunner. Its designed for running, so it's nice and small but the wrist strap is not as good as a proper bike mount. Does everything i want it to do: current speed, average speed, max speed, distance, time , laps. It was pretty cheap as well, about £50 i think.

Any single speed riders out there?

I'm after some wheels for my build this weekend and I fancy some Halo Aero Rages but I can't get them until next week. Looking for a flip flop hub, 700c and less than £200.

Ideas?

Just got a set of rollers to train in the house.... I thought I had quite good balance....

Trying to stay on the things was so funny I was laughing at myself trying to keep upright, I'd love to see a shop try to sell these on a demo stall :p

I have SS road and MTB, my road is a no name Chinese special I use as a commuter though.

New job next week so cutting my commute from 25 miles each way to 17 miles each way. Apart from one short but very steep hill it's pretty flat so I figure it's prime SS territory.

I was converting an old hybrid for the job, but the frame is rusted to bugger when I took the BB off, and a custom track frame came up on ebay at the weekend.

Oh, I started out with the best intentions of it costing nothing, with begged, borrowed and recycled parts (the original bike I was going to use was £40) and it was going to be a winter commuter. However, as with all my personal projects it's ended up late and over budget.

As for gears, I've got enough geared bikes, now it's time to try something different. Now I'm a dad I've got less time on my hands so I can't spend as much time servicing and cleaning my road bike as I should. An SS bike removes a lot of that by being able to take more punishment and not needing as much attention, particularly in winter.
