just back from a short spell at ordiequish doing some of the monster trails, first time there and have to say WOW!!!
steep climbs but well worth it on the way back down, only did the dragons tail which crosses onto the soup dragon but loved it soo much had to do it twice and reading the graphs back i was over twice as fast the second time round which im well chuffed with :D

nearly come a cropper getting off line a couple of times tho :( and might need to go clipped in as during changes my feet keep bouncing off the pedals

check out my route here http://sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/198233?key=2534a6ae2ed32ffd7ddf4b0a98784ad8f28dcc82&ms=0

anyone else have a good day out today ?

oh and another quick question, do any of you wear glasses and goggles? its just on the way down through some of the faster sections my eyes were starting to water which of course slowed me down as i had to clear them :(

I have some cheap (like £5) Endura sunglasses, just to stop the eye streaming and keep the mud out, my left eye is rubbish so if I get mud in my right one I'mpretty much blind :p They work well but mist up sometimes when I'm puffing along.

We have just sorted our annual MTB trip to

Looks great. You could maybe queeze in Learnie red rock while you are up Fort William way. It's meant to be great too.

I went there last year. The mast blast is great fun. A killer climb to get to it but well worth it. :)

Can't ride without glasses now, had to one day as I'd left them at home, and managed to get mud in my eyes on a fast section. Not fun.

Learnie has some great trails.
It's not exactly close to fort william tho. It would take more than 2 hours to drive from fort william to learnie.
And if you're going that far to get to learnie, then you may as well stay for a bit longer and visit the highland wildcat trails in Golspie and the moray monster trails near Fochabers (maybe even Abriachan trails and Balnain Bike park - but these are not as good), they are all fairly close together within a 50mile radius of inverness

2hrs is nothing if SDK is coming from the west midlands. :p The problem is there are so many good trails to explore in the North and they are all miles away from each other.

I tried them once more with hairspray and they eventually stuck. 5th time lucky!

Took the new ride for her first outing at a very muddy Cannock this morning, never seen it so busy. The guys at Leisure Lakes who put her together did a ****-poor effort setting up the gears, they were all over the place. They didn't crimp an end onto the front gear cable either so it's now nice and frayed and will need replacing.

Something doesn't feel quite right up front either, think I need to make a stem & bar change. There are so many possible combo's, I really don't know where to start...

Anyone got any experience of semi slicks?

My Rockhopper only seems to get used in the week for a quick ride down surfaced cycle tracks before work, so the drag of the Panaracer Fires is starting to annoy me. At the same time, I don't want to lose the ability to take it down the tow path or down some dirt tracks when the weather improves.

What tyres are recommended? And how good/bad are they off road?

I commuted for about 6months on a pair of Panaracer Mach SS, pretty good as they've still got grip in the wet and if you pump them right up they ride pretty nice.

Did Dalby on them too I think by accident ! they where ok for that as it was pretty dry ! :p

Yes. That's where I was going to suggest SDK ride Glentress/Inners in the one day to free up a day to explore some other highland delights. ;)

Dalby Red route tomorrow, Not done it for a while so should be good.
Thinking we'll be lazy and start at Dixons Hollow.

I'll also check out the new sections they've put in for the XC race at the end of next month,

Also their are some new mammoth Black route drop offs some where too. Although I won't be doing them ! :D

I'll probably post a write up nd photos on our site thats in my sig.
Hoping the weather is ok, (looking out the window in York its very wet!)

Can anyone come up with anything better than a Trek 1.2 for ~£600 ?

Still toying with the idea of a road bike

Looks good thb, I don't know much about roadies, but I like the Boardman range, I know people give them loads of stick but the do look good.

I'm toying with the idea of either a Sub £1000 Full susser maybe KHS or a Roadie for training, through the C2W scheme.

Shame I was thinking of going up tomorrow but not sure that I can now!

Just snapped up a 06 Langster off the bay, perfect for my 5min commute!

It will be getting upgrades in time, carbon forks and de branding will be first!
