Risers offer a more customisable riding position, hence the "fad"

a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.

A riser bar offers the same riding position as a flat bar with stem of greater angle. The only difference being weight as you correctly mentioned, and looks!

Why don't we all just get along and bring back the pro-flex stem:

Borrowing ANOTHER bike.

Camera phone pic :o of a 1999 Stumpjumper FSR XC Pro. Original Sid's replaced with Marzocchi MX or something. Original drivetrain replaced. Mix of XT and XTR parts. Note the bar ends. They are on a flat bar on a pure XC bike so it's ok. :p

My old Trek hardtail. The drive train is a mix of xt mechs and shifters, lx cranks, sram chain and cassette. Hope xc hubs and mavic F219 rims. I use old Hope C2 brakes as it's the only way to fit a rear disc and I don't think there's a more comfortable lever the the hope pro.

It's mainly used for xc stuff so I've got bar ends for more comfortable positions on long rides and to extend the cockpit a bit. I also use a low rise riser bar as it was cheap and I haven't got round to finding a decent length flat bar with the right sweep.

It's currently got an old pair of manitou sx forks on it as I've broken the Pace rc36's I usually run and am still deciding whether to get them fixed or get a new pair. Any suggestions on a new (or second hand) fork for around £200. I'd need at most 100 mm of travel, IS disc mount and would prefer a lock out/down for climbing. I like the mx comp eta's but they're post mount now.

I'd got for the Mx comp eta and a Post to IS Adaptor.

fantastic forks and the lock-down is much better than lock out as it make the hill climbs a lot easier due to the 'angle of attack'

Hi there, I'm new on here! Been a lurker for a while, researching for a rig I'm going to build up over xmas. Anyway, I was browsing around and couldn't resist posting. Not much good at resisting anything when it comes to bikes TBH!

Anyways, I ride one of these:

and I spent the summer here:

That would be Whistler :p

It's been 6 weeks and cost me a fortune but the Heckler is back and better than ever.

Rear wheel rebuilt with DT Swiss EX5.1D rim. Back brake works now! :o Sherman Flick plus 120-150mm replaces the broken Manitou Blacks

I'll get some better pics up soon.

I might have a job soon (!) so i'm looking into bikes again :)

I haven't had a bike in a long time, and am not at all fit, so won't be doing anything really serious to start with, but it will be XC rather than road!

Budget is upto £800, what would you suggest? (for some reason i want an Orange Crush 2006, but i don't really know why!).

Thanks

Hey Matt, drop by to Climb On Bikes in Hereford, they often have Ex-demo in and they are like used for a day in some event, just a tiny mud on tires at most but often 40% off. £800 can get you some bargains there.

btw, are you looking for a Hardtail or don't mind getting a FS ?

Hardtail ideally! Do we have any Orange dealers near here?

661 Nuevo's are my current pick, they're very nice (661 don't make them any more :\. CRC still have some 05 one's in limited sizes, but the Tibruon's seem similar), although the pro's seem to favour the 661 Launch's but they're flat soled and wouldn't be my choice of shoe. The Sidi's are nice, but they have a stupid price :p.
