built this back in 2002, put spme new forks on last year.

Question for the bikey types, a few years back I bought myself a dual sus cheapish bike, its a Giant Boulder I think? its tidy anyway, I'm in the process of sorting it out now and re-wiring brakes because they were a little worse for wear from being sat in our shed all these years.

Anywhoo is it possible to buy a solid rear shock thing for the back half of the sus? I'm basically going to start riding it in an attempt to get a little fitter and its far to spongy for my liking. Any suggestions before I go out and just buy a hardtail bike lol.

You can buy a shock with lock out such as the Fox Float RL. An older one will be around £40-80 2nd hand. You will probably need bushings to fit the shock and a bushing tool to fit the bushings to the shock. You will also need to make sure the shock fits by measuring the eye to eye length of the shock and measure the stroke of the shock (how long the bit that moves is).

But given all that, if you have the bike I think you have then you would be as well getting a decent hard tail.

Haha nice one :D When did you order that?! Peer pressure me thinks :D

I ordered it yesterday, lightning fast service from TF Tuned :)

I got in late this evening so I haven't had a chance to ride it yet but it's fitted:

The top bolt went back in fine, no bother, but as soon as the bottom bolt nipped (not even much force being put on it) this happened to either side of the bolt:

Now I don't even want to attempt to do try and get it off in case I make it worse, does this look like something my LBS will be able to fix without having to damage the shock / frame? It doesn't look *too* bad and I reckon if you take the crank off and use a proper socket set (instead of a spanner) it should be OK but I wanted other opinions first, bit worried that I've shafted the shock and/or frame.

It's rideable as-is by the way, it's tight enough and if it works it's way loose it saves me cash having to get the bolt undone by the bike shop :p

that should come off fine with a socket imo. at worst you will just have to get one of them sockets that work off the flats rather than the corners

seriously considering a pitch next month... have no one to ride downhill with anymore but a lot of mates are starting to do a bit of trail riding which my bighit is completley useless for right now

Don't worry Craig even the stock bolt looks slightly rounded, like the bolt is machined that way - I know this as I had to recently buy the entire Enduro rear linkage bolt kit (£25) after ruining the top shock mount bolt.

Try and snug it up with a decent fitting ring spanner and it'll be OK. The bolts are made out of cheese and will all need replacing eventually, especially if you end up replacing the linkage bearings.

I currently have a massive hard-on for the Specialized 2011 Enduro bikes!

Enduro Comp, great price for a fantastic spec (in my opinion)

Enduro Expert (it's a lot of cash, but again, the spec is great. Not so value for money as the comp is)

... then the bike I'd get if I were to give up DH and just want one bike that will do the lot

Any of you lot taken part in the "Hairy Coo" mountain bike race near Comrie in Perthshire?. Or ridden the course up around there?. Considering entering in October, I'm gonna go up there with some mates and recce it out first.

Basically what little Scott is saying is "Ride the bike that you got. If you get into the whole riding thing, you will most likely just get another bike, and spending money on that would be a waste"

Also, if you are planning to ride where a mountain bike is supposed to be ridden - off road - it won't feel too spongy.

Just been reading up on the Specialized Pitch Pro after checking out your upgrade.
Seems like a very well spec'd bike for the price. I've added it to my list of 3 possible purchases for my next bike :)

Santa Cruz Heckler - Frame only, does anywhere in the UK sell complete builds?
Giant Reign X2
Specilized Pitch Pro

Can someone tell me what the extra little sprocket or wheel is just behind the chainring on the above pic? An extra tensioner? I see them on some bikes but haven't spotted many in real life.
