i need a bit of buying advice, and i'm wondering if you guys can help me?

basically, my cycle to work is up at the end of the month, so it's new bike time

this year i want to get something that i'll be happy with for a number of years (as i won't be going onto the scheme again next year due to a new baby)

i've got my heart set on a Cube, and i've narrowed the choices down to these two:

http://www.surosa.co.uk/36538/products/Cube_Reaction_GTC_Pro_2011.aspx

http://www.surosa.co.uk/359000/products/Cube_AMS_Comp_2011_Black_n_White.aspx

i really don't know which one to choose - i'm more partial to a hardtail, but will i be lusting after a full suss a couple of years down the line?

the componentry looks about the same (from what i can see?) - it will be for weekend ride outs, XC, trails etc. no downhill or jumps or anything, plus the occasional commute (although i have a road bike for that)

what are your opinions? i'm going to look at the bikes this weekend i hope

thanks :)

Personally I'd go for a hardtail, but a cheaper one, you can get a damn good HT for £800-£1000

Went out for a ride in the rain last week and my rotors are squealing like a stuck pig, they've never done it before and have very little use, the only thing I can think of is that the plasterer who redid our garage walls managed to contaminate the pads, is there any way of cleaning them or should I just replace them? Would I need to do the discs at the same time?

Might just be normal, mine squeal like a pig in the wet until you get some heat into them. If they were contaminated you'd notice a drop in performance.

Just got a new Helmet/Chest cam and tested it on one of the local DH runs.
Sorry for the shakiness, Gracia/Lopes impersonation and the rookie soundtrack, I don't really take things seriously.

If you view it on the Youtube website it looks okay at 720p..

Love that, GoPro's chest mount is ace for camera angle, nice idea putting it on backwards too.

If you're buying on the Cycle scheme then you can't go over £1000

and before anybody says "you can't do that" - yes, i can :)

pls put that in ur signature :p

i didnt know about the cycle to work limit about 1000, but I did know you could top it up, and most places seem quite casual about using accessories money to pay for the bike or vice-versa, it seems they dont care as long as they get paid.

They will add on £100 to the price of the bike. Shops only get £900 for the £1000 voucher so to get the sale price we add that £100 back on.

OR if the bike is reduced from the RRP under £1000 we add 10-11% back on to keep the same margins.

White lies are always good;)

LOL Jonny, they might do that at Halfrauds but not at a Specialized Concept Store :)

I was under the impression £1000 was the limit, regardless of your own top up funds.

my bmx last week :) on a ride.. at which i sprained my ankle ;] by today i have a new rear wheel on.. don't mind the blue grips.. got the bars of my mate and just left them there.. the other ones were orange :)

I need a 203/200 and a 180mm.. Superstar seem the best and cheapest.. Am looking at the Flame or Vibe designs... Anyone?

Hey guys, this is pretty much directed at people in the North West but need help from the bike community.

Me and my friend where leaving Uni today, ready to go home and we went out to the bike racks to find that his Chucker had gone. We went to the central security center for our Uni and we realized and that this dick head robbed his bike 5 minutes before we got there.

Theres a picture of it below, if any one hears anything or see's anything, call the number on the picture please, thanks for your help and for reading guys.
