I use Danese body armour for anything that looks like I won't survive without it. Knee/Shin guards are a must, especially if you use platforms that have pins. Helmet, full face 661 hurricane, although I use a 661 dirt lid for not so likely to die stuff :p. Gloves, at the moment are altura night visions. I may have to swap out the lid and gloves for Troy Lee stuff at a later date (when I have the money ;)).

I also use 661 neuvos, and wear Oakley O frames when it's muddy

Bah, I did the black run at Glentress on a hardtail with only an XC helmet. Then the double black diamond at Laggan on my Heckler with just an XC helmet...although after some of the injuries a couple of pals had I wouldn't chance my luck again. :o

I gave up using an XC helmet when I broke it into lots of little pieces during a drop off that went wrong. The same drop off also ended up with me having a piece of cast iron fence going in one side of my leg and coming out the other, so I'll stick with body armor, and a helmet that's in one piece :p.

rode the black run at glentresss on a vertical headcangled xile with no helmet. :( Scary ***** r eallly.Gonna get a grio remedy carbon when ig ot the money thoiugh,

Heh yeah I've done pretty much all the red and black runs in the 7 stannes and Wales with my old Caldera and an XC helmet. No way I'm doing that on this new rig with the speeds it'll carry down the hill.

I've read the story's of people face planting and loosing both lips + teeth, bugger that.

I guess a proper pressure suit style kit is needed to go over to Morzime in the summer?

I have pics somewhere of one of the guys from my club being airlifted to hospital after faceplanting a drop from the Kona Shed in Morzine. Real nasty!

Well just bought a new frame for a Downhill Bike. Picked up a big hit frame, gonna be running 888R's and a halo rims. Will take pics while i build it up :)

Man bike insurance is soo annoying, about the cheapest I've found is Evans cover at 9.5% of bike value per year :o

Two pics of my Big Hit Frame with 888R's

Thats pretty good. Im looking at around £350 mark for a second hand scratched frame.

My cousin has an 04 frame and i cant help but think the back wheel just looks wrong. I like my mates 2002 one with the 26" conversion though. :)

Yea, i looked for AGES for a second hand frame. I didnt want a 24 inch rear wheel.. but ah well. Will hopefully look good with a 2.7 on the rear

new bike?

My god I love this forum now.

It has both my favourite past times included :p

Anyway now that I've found this thread, I thought I might ask for some advice.

I'm looking for a new bike (ideally a full susser) mainly for xc but maybe with a little extra travel for single track and novice d/h (lol).

I'll have about a grand and a half to spend.

I was looking at Konas but I was told that I would be paying for the name and they don't have v.good value for money. Is this true?

I currently have a specialized hard rock pro, and I was told that specialized again would be a good choice, but which one to go for?

Are there any other bikes you'd reccommend?

Thanks all :)

Kona are overpriced for the spec. Specialized are a good one to look at. Youd be looking at the Enduro range if you fancy a bit of Freeride/Light Downhill. Not sure on the prices but have a look around! :)

That will look really beefy.

If i get this frame i've got him to include the rear 135x12mm hub so i can just get my rim rebuilt onto it. The seatstay is still bare metal so i would ideally get the whole frame stripped and get it anodized black.

Second hand market is **** the now. At least 2-3 year old bighit frames going for £300-400 when you can get a demo for £600

 Evans cycles lowest spec 2007 enduro is £1999

Know any places that have any really good value 06 bikes I could get? It's amazing how much they drop in price once the new years bikes come out.
