I fall off quite a bit on the DH bike, not so much on the XC bike cause i dont push it as hard. Gotta find those limits 
Having said that, one broke hand, one broke finger and a very trashed AC joint you think id learn. But meh its all good fun! Took a nasty slam at the welsh champs couple weekends back too and my shoulder still hurts

1)Not if you have the right tools.
2)Yes you can get a bashguard for triples, just needs to match the BCD of your existing crankset.
3)Yes, but nothing is perfect if the ground is wet or muddy.

Im surprised at that.
How do they feel?
Do they take a lot of getting used to? I always find with grip shifters that i accidentally change gears on climbs and things when im pulling hard on the bars.
Is there a reason for running grip shifters (weight? crash resistance?) or is it just personal preference?

I had a slight fall today, have started stringing together short downhill bits on my local route, getting a bit ambitious with the speed and the rear wheel washed out around the corner, came to a nice comfy rest on my side leaning on the banking. Quite fun actually

Does anyone have any recommendations for cycle insurance? I'm leaning toward this one, as they seem to cover plenty of stuff and aren't too expensive.
I've gotta try out some of these trails. I live in Birmingham and work in Cannock (when I'm not at uni), so I'm fairly well placed to just jump on a train with the bike
How long is Follow the Dog?
It's about 7.2 miles for a lap, I usually do 3 or 4 laps.

Another option is to get your house insurance with m&s. They are good for bikes.

Do they do policies suitable for students?
Finally finished of the front wheel for the fixed and gave the new geared a good testing this morning, so thought i'd take some pics
