If it's the axle bolt I THINK it will be a 15mm but I know its got those adjustable drop out things with allen bolts as well? A picture might help but if its the allen bolt that you have rounded, then you might have to drill it out and source a new one. If you're not comfortable with that sort of thing I would take it to a bike shop and let them have a look, It will probably only take them 5 minutes and be fairly cheap.

I fitted my CR Mag's well over a month ago, still haven't ridden them :(

I've only had one dirt ride so far this year, :eek: weather hasn't been great for MTB so it's been lots of road. Itching to get back onto the dirt but after so many storms there's still too many trees down in spots and too much mud.
 
The singletrack areas where I ride tear up too easily when muddy, so riders are encouraged to stay away. That and the cold weather has meant I can't be arsed this winter as it's an hour train ride to the trails.
 
Mud riding seems to be a serious no-no in the US, if we were like that here I'd never get out for about 9 months a year. I understand the idea, some stuff in the UK is terribly erroded by bikers (Whinstone Lee Tor anyone?) but how do people think the paths got there if erosion is such a terrible thing to be avoided?
 
Lots of the singletrack where I ride is purpose built for MTBing, but it's not in trail centres like you'd find in the UK. But in other areas there's often friction between competing groups, hikers, bikers and horse riders etc on the impact each has particularly in "wilderness" areas.

I was also looking at getting an S-Works Epic Carbon frame but I've spent too much already so that is going to have to wait until next year :(
 
Changes to my FS race bike from last year are CR Mag's from J7's, XTR crankset from XT, Thomson Masterpiece from an Elite and different grips.

Hadn't really intended to spend any of that :D
 
Cwmcarn was awesome. Good to meet everyone. Did 2 xc red routes the next day with my DH tyres...not the best idea I have ever had.
 
Why is nothing easy? Just gone to fit my new tyres to the rockhopper, and blown up an inner tube (that made me jump..) and then found a snapped spoke in the rear wheel. Excellent :rolleyes:
 
Just after a bit of advice well 3 bits really!
  • General maintenance after a ride what's the best practice to keep everything working ok?
  • Im getting a clicking noise when peddaling in the middle gear on the front any ideas what this may be or how to fix?
  • SPD pedals and shoes for a relative novice any recomendations on what to get? Would prefer not spend the earth...

General maintenance just consists of cleaning the bike like a wipedown and check all cables and maybe clean the chain and re-lube it, unless its filthy then a full clean is probably best.....As for the clicking i dont know ive got the same on my bike and i cant work it out either lol. SPD pedals not a clue im a flat man.

Funnily enough, I'm looking at the same thing at the minute. Right now, I dont think you can beat the Boardman Road Comp (650) or the Boardman Road Team (799) for value for money.

On another note, received some cheapo luggage scales off ebay today and weighed the Stiffee, 29.6lbs! Which I have to say I'm a little dissapointed with, was expecting it to be at least a few lbs lighter.
 
Just wondering if anyone one here can help, the girlfriend is after a new bike she got a basic bike last year but now wants something better, she will be getting if from the cycle to work scheme but she only wants to spend about £400 on it, we will be doing some light bike trails and paths, so we have been looking at this one http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fuji/nevada-30-2010-womens-mountain-bike-ec022188 is it any good or is they better for the money on there...thanks

£400 after the Cycle Scheme discount or before as you could get a £600 bike for about that price with this scheme and that will be better than a £400 bike.

Oh christ im not having much luck with the bike latley, last week i found cracks in my stem, replaced that yesterday, today i went out to the local woods - flying along and WHAM, i think i hit a stump on the right side which has resulted in a nice list of damage.

. Front wheel completly bent - Fixable and currently in a LBS getting straightened
. Front right fork leg is totally demolished - cracks in the crown above the sanchion
. Right shoulder bruised to hell and back still not sure if something is wrong
. Right shin totally removed of any skin for a 2 inch patch, stings like hell.

Everything else on the bike is fine, although im without any forks now and cant afford to really replace them so im out for the count unless i can find some cheap second hand ones.

i give mine a quick wash over with warm water and a brush to loosen up all the hard to reach muck, then apply some finish line wet lube to the chain cassette etc and even some on the fork stanchions sp?

after a couple of rides i like to clear out the gunk on the jockey wheels

as for SPD's ive just ventured into them myself and bought some shoes from Lidls (believe it or not) for £19 and a set of shimano M520's off the bay for £19, dont think you'll find cheaper than that unless second hand :)

the shoes are actually quite comfy to ride in but not so great for walking

What forks? I've got some Manitou Super Six Elites (100mm IIRC with standard QR) which you could have for the cost of postage. They ain't great but would get the bike going again.
