Very rarely on my HT did i have to go into the granny ring on the rides I do, as using my turbo trainer has really helped me out and I can spin really well in the middle ring.

But on my New Reign 2 its granny ring all the way.

No long had my 08 enduro....The rear shock can be set to slack or steep ,whats best for XC riding?

Also anyone know what diameter seat post spesh use?

Take your seatpost out and look carefully. The diameter should be marked on there.

Have some BMX tubes and Stans sealant on the way, gonna try some ghetto tubeless Oh Yeah! Hopefully have it sorted in time for my trip to Gisburn forest on Wednesday.

The high BB setting will give you more pedal clearence but at the sacrifice of a higher center of mavity (less stability) which will affect handling, however the front end is also lower meaning its harder to wheelie when climbing. Reverse the above for low BB. I run low BB with the stanchions clamped pretty high so the bike is more geared to dh/am, and I seem to climb fine

The seat post is 30.9mm.

Ah Special Ed's confused bike.

Steeper is better for the traditional XC trails but the long travel says the bike should have a slack geometry for the nar.

Hi guys, I'm planning some new tyres for my bike. Currently have a set of Kenda Nevegal's but noticed they seem to lose grip when pushing it down the trails.
Planning either:

Panaracer Fire XC Pro 26x2.1
or
Maxxis Highroller XC 26x2.1

Anyone care to help me decide? Maxxis seem to get great reviews and seem well suited to my fast aggressive riding, but my mate has the Panaracer's and swears by them..

I was told that were some very nice decents, so I left the DH tyres on. There were decents but had to get to them by briddle way. Felt like riding through sticky toffee pudding

Not very interesting, Looks nice though. Mendips Friday evening.

i have panracers (riding swampys at the mo) and find they clog up quite quickly when riding muddy sections but they are a very fast tyre indeed

id be tempted by the highrollers for the grip

Ill vouch that the Fire XC's clog up way too easy, which is bound to happen with our gloopy mud, but for dry stuff they are pretty damn quick although i find the front isnt as stable as the rear and washes out very easy compared to other tires.

Are you dead set on those tyre choices? I wanted to try something different last year after running Maxxis ignitors 2.1s for a long while and this strange scottish gent convinced me to get some Continental Mountain King supersonics 2.2 and lets put it this way I am never gonna run a different tyre! (except for maybe the 2.4 version) They are superb in both wet and dry conditions.

I used them recently at two very different surfaces Lee quarry which is rocky, loose gravel and FoD DH which was super dry and dusty and I kept big berm hitting traction at all times.

That strange Scottish gent obviously knows his stuff. Even if he seems to have a rubber fettish just now.

Continental Mountain King SS 2.2 v Continental Mountain King 2.4 UST. Both mounted on 28mm wide rims. A nice square profile on the 2.4. (not just because it's worn)

Slightly taller side wall on the 2.4 too:

2010 Nobby Nic 2.4 compared to the Mountain King 2.4. You can see that the MK isn't that big a tyre.

Quite a difference in the side wall size too:

The Mountain King Supersonic tyres are great but do wear down fast. The 2.4 above has done less than 300miles, mostly off road. For me the 2010 Nobby Nic is a better tyre but just damn expensive. £44 a piece. :eek:

MK SS can be had for £34 each which is still expensive especially with how fast they wear down. The 2010 Nobby Nic is my new favourite tyre.

Edit: *note The UST Mountain Kings are no where near as good as the Supersonic versions. Avoid.*

finally managed to dent my poor trek

hit a massive loose rock at Mynydd Du and it hit the bottom of my downtube and put quite a bit dent in it! Ah well these things happen

Why oh why are there no seatposts that fill the price void between the cack at ~£20 and the good stuff at about £50 that are available in 27.0mm dia.? I need something:

- 27.0mm diameter
- 400mm long
- Around £30-40

I have an Easton EA50, but it's only 350mm long. I want something a little longer but can't find anything! Easton seem not to make 27.0mm posts anymore. Gah!
