Bit of both really isn't it?
Bitter interface to hold the crank on compared to square taper but the BBs wear out quicker due to having smaller balls.

Been reading MBR this month, just makes me want to spend money on a FS bike I have no real need for yet!

Agreed. Mainly because you can get better bikes for the money and because, for me, there's just too many of them.
Too expensive anyway for myself at the moment too unless I have a lottery win!

I've been pondering a Zesty or a Remedy for a while now, if I don't end up building myself.
The places I ride are littered with them and the riders say nothing but good things, plus they both win or score very highly in bike magazine tests.

Magazine tests are always a little swayed, lapierre had a reputation for cracking it may have been resolved now but they are still made by cheese eating surrender monkeys. Treks are better for spec and production but they are just dull in both styling and ride.

I'm glad you agree that Specialized are boring!
Statistically speaking - 3 T2's in this thread just means there is a higher than average amount of people here with exceptionally good taste.

Did you GAP route Sunday. At about 200 meters high the weather closed in and couldn't see any of the great Brecon views 
Me and a mate of mine have renamed the GAP to 'Puncture alley'
My rear tubeless went flat close to the top, Just a small thorn, got the Leatherman out and got it out of the tyre. The sealant didn't seal as im guessing as it was gritty and wet. ? Then on the decent my mate got a rock strike to the rim and slashed his rear tyre (tubeless) and didn't seal. So his only spare tube went in.
Then while helping / laughing at him my front inner tube popped 
(rear tubeless - front tyre is not ust)
So we have both used our spare tubes and only travelled 7 miles up and down the GAP. Then to top it off his rear exploded me being downwind.... had to patch the new tube. whilst my rear tubeless wheel had to be pumped up every 30minutes.

What we've learned from this big mountain and planned 'big' mountain days is to have suitable tyres and not racing Ralphs and Rocket Rons. And lots of spare tubes.
Oh and Specialized 'may be boring' but they are good and that's the reason why so many people have them. why have something substandard just to be different?

I do enjoy how no matter what brand you begin discussing it always finishes on slagging of specialized!

I think Trek's and Lapierres both look sexy as hell in terms of styling. I've never ridden a Trek with their ABP design but it's completely different to something like the Spicy which has a much more straight forward design (horst-link?!) so a test ride on either would be the best idea.
And yeah the Spesh Enduro (2010+) gets amazing reviews. Kona* seems to love his and he's bloody fast on it (up and down the hills).

Folks - Anyone here been to Carbisdale or Balblair?. What are the routes like?. They look quite short in distance going by the Forestry Commission website. Heading up to Dornoch for a few days this coming weekend so was tempted to take the bike with me and have a wee explore.
