and that iron horse is nice, and as i said before id much rather hame 20mm on my single crowns like one those pikes over qr just as much as i would on triple clamp forks

I agree. I would have a slight weight penalty in favour of 20mm axel over regular QR any day. But that's down to the type of riding I do / did. I am powerful enough to carry a little extra weight up climbs, but the 20mm thru axel inspires confidence through rocky sections. I remember my Manitou Black's being particularly bad for off camber rocky sections!

Okay, so my Terrago Disc Spring '07 finally arrived.

After DHL tried to deliver it to the wrong house I had to go get it from the depot. :rolleyes:

It's all assembled and I'm just about to go for a ride. Apart from riding the damn thing, is there anything I need to do/check?

Check the QR skewers are tight because according to Jonny//M they can come lose at any time, catapult you over the bars an kill you instantly :rolleyes:

. Ok so maybe not but worth a check anyway.

Did i say that....i said it happened to me once. Granted it was a **** wheel but still.

Check the QR are tight because a lot of people dont tighten them properly,check the stem bolts are all tight and adjust the brakes so they dont pull to the bar but have enough slack for the fluid to expand.

Just got back from a decent ride. I did about 10 miles on tracks and the bike now looks significantly less clean than in the pic above!

What can I say? It's awesome! So much easier to ride than my cheapo hardtail that I've had for the last 4 years. The gears are fantastic and the brakes are really keen.

How long have you been riding regularly and how far?

I recently got a new bike, and it's painful to take it into the woods for the first time, but now it's broken in i loves it

got myself a nice shiny trek 4500 the other day and after riding on a chepo full susser for so long it feels weird to the point of uncomfortable riding a hardtail, but im sure il get used to it over the next few days.
Gonna try n put a good few miles on it before it gets taken to wales over the summer.

I've been riding to and from school perhaps twice a week for the last few months, and last summer too. That's about 8 miles there and 8 miles back. I also quite like just going around the tracks near where I live and up to Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire from time to time. Lockout was essential as I do quite a bit of road riding too.

But yeah I'm really impressed with it, it felt effortless climbing steep inclines and there were some nice high gears for the downhills, unlike my last bike.

10 miles? Just warming up eh?

Before you realise it you will be doing 30 miles of trails or 50 miles of road and trails.

Me and the wife took the GT's out for a short run of 30 miles. about 50/50 split between trails and roads. On the road bit we came upon the course of a road race and got pwned by some roadies with uber lightweight carbon road bikes doing speeds faster than the traffic.! :cool:

:EDIT: Oh and we always plan a pub stop somewhere on the run...

Ha yeah, just a quick warm up today.

I won't be able to ride again 'til next week as I'm going away for week in the Dales on Monday. I'll be walking 10 miles a day rather than cycling it then. With plenty of pub stops along the way.

the 3mm thick bit is the skewer and just holds it in the dropouts , the actual axle that runs on the bearings and takes the stress etc is 9mm

You've had more luck with Winstanleys than I've had p4radox. I ordered that same bike for £360 from them over a month ago and still don’t have a bike to show for it. The clowns did however send me a kiddies BMX bike instead of the Terrago which I returned straight away. They don’t even return my calls anymore. It’s time to complain to Trading Standards and do a charge back on my credit card.

Winstanleys are ******* idiots.

thats roughly where i have my seat set on my trek, is there a problem with that if it fits

hmm was that the 2007 model or the Spring 2007 model?

I had a few issues. Firstly the 2007 wasn't in stock, but they debited my account £325. I emailed and rang and couldn't get through. One day I rang and spoke to a very helpful lady called Diane (I think). She told me that she'd get Andy to ring me back. I then got a call from Andy an hour later, apologising for the inconvenience. He offered me the Spring 2007 model for £350, which I accepted.

I then waited for the bike to arrive. About a week later one of neighbours came round with the DHL "you weren't in" slip. They tried to deliver it to 146 and I live at 154. :confused:

Anyway, I went and collected the bike from the depot, and it had 154 on the box. So I think DHL were messing me around a bit too. I have no faith at all in couriers.

I'd ring Winstanley's and ask to speak to Andy. He seemed like he might be either the manager or perhaps on of the senior guys.

It's about an inch or two higher now. I tend to lower it a bit anyway when I'm doing some rough offroad riding.
