*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Been trying to lose a few kg, get down to ~78kg from 86kg. Spend this year trying to do it by having a half decent diet but I've not really been disciplined enough so have gone on the Myprotein Whole Fuel shakes, got a month's worth and will see where I am at the end.

Hopefully it'll get me some of the way, currently on 1200kcals a day, but will have some snacks Fri/Sat night (crisps and humous is my go to!) and one proper meal every weekend so it isn't too miserable a month.

Wish me luck!
I know you've said its just a start but crash dieting down on 1200 calories per day is not a good way to start at all, also shakes only is really not ideal either, its extreme and unsustainable. At the peak of my cut my lowest intake was 1650/1700 and im a pretty short guy so my calorie requirements were lower by default.

A much better habit is to go walking every day for 45misn to 1hour. Start your calorie limit at 1.9k cals minimum.

Argh, beer is so tasty but so so bad. Drinking white wine in the pub just seems wrong though.

Edit - need to remind myself that wine is tasty and for the same calories as 7 beers one could drink 3 bottles of wine.

You can have just one you know... especially if driving.
I was at the pub yesterday, Pint of Thatchers, Burger and fries, apple pie and custard and a coffee...
No biggy. White wine with Sunday roast today too..
Don't destroy your life because of food, just plan it better, like miss breakfast or something that day

Absolutely, my plan with beer involves hardly ever going to the pub these days, so I guess it balances it out. I’ve cut beer at home significantly.

Planning has been absolutely key. Online shopping, meal planning and logging on Noom has been very helpful.

I discovered the Nutra Check app yesterday. Seems like a worthy competitor to MyFitnessPal. Has a lovely product database with package shots. You get one week free trial then £5.99 per month.

Back down to 92.8kg again… only taken a month after overindulging on ski holiday (and conference etc). Oh well, onwards! Horrible viral illness over the last 2 weeks has slowed progress too. Just need to keep plugging away. I’m getting much more used to eating closer to 2000 calories a day now and going slightly under hasn’t been disastrous in terms of energy and mood!

Some of that will be down to you being more efficient at burning those calories you do intake, as you get thinner you need less calories. If you stuck at 2000 eventually you would reach a stasis point and stop losing weight, at which point you need to cut more. Someone above mentioned it in passing the other day.... it gets harder to lose.
My problem is unhelpful family buying crap snack food and leaving it on the counter. All very well saying "you don't have to eat it" but it doesn't work like that!

92.6 and 92.7 over the last 2 days. Went for a 23 mile cycle today. I forgot how much I love cycling. Not only does it get me out into the amazing countryside, but it’s basically afforded me a whole extra meal in the day!

Awesome stuff.

I went out for the first ride in a while today and was reminded of similar positives.

The downside being that I did 11 miles and consumed 3 pints at various cafes along the way…

Upped my steps to 20k plus a day, let's see how long it's sustainable for!
Guess it depends what kind of job you have and how much time you have as well! I have a desk job and have to dedicate an hour a day to a walk to get me to between 8-10k steps per day.

Retired. Time is something I have a lot of luckily. Was doing the standard 10k steps, noticed it was creeping up and last week was hitting 16k a day so thought I would push it a bit further. Hopefully will see some weight drop off.

With a cycling trip away from tomorrow, I started eating more over the last week, to ensure my energy levels are replenished. I was interested to see I've only really put on about 2lbs, which is probably from just being full of more food... My body fat % was the lowest I've seen it for a while on my scales. My ride on Sunday seemed to be quicker than it has been, so hopfeully the strategy has worked!

When I come back, back on the stricter calories to drop the few extra lbs back off.

I'm going to leave this here and if you want to watch it, you can.
Very informative IMO.
1.5hrs.. grab a low calorie beverage...
