*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Yeah i always weigh myself either after work as i work 4am - 10am, or on my days off after my morning workout which i do as soon as i get up, always usually within half a lb of the previous day, not seen a 3lb rise in 3 days before, especially when my intake hasn't changed but my cardio workouts have increased dramatically.

I like a strategy I’ve seen on TikTok lately whereby people buy themselves an item of clothing (typically jeans) at their goal waist size and then just keep trying them on every week or so. Chuck away the scales. :p

Wake up at your normal time, go take a leak, then weigh yourself before you shovel anything into your gob.
That will be the most reliable / consistent weight you can take.

So... I'd upped my cals almost two weeks before my cycle trip, put on about 3lbs. Just returned from Mallorca, cycled many mountains, ate LOTS and once again another 6lbs. I did wonder if the 3lbs I added by prepping would mean I wouldn't gain 6lbs (as I did last year) but no...

As before 3 or 4lbs will drop almost straight off as I get strict again. Interesting though, this morning's body fat % was the lowest I've seen in a LONG time. (19.5%)

Probably gained muscle from the cycling, im seeing my body fat go down daily but my weight is going up.

Did the extra calories in the 2 weeks preceding help with the cycling when you were out there? I had a similar increase when skiing for a week.
It's hard to tell. A couple of the climbs I beat my last year, a couple I didn't. I didn't feel great, but I think that was more around the feeling when you think you have a cold coming on.

I think I mentioned, I went out last Sunday and did feel really good though, so there's a definite difference when you consistently fuel well.

Yeah, a little bit might be that, due to the long sustained climbs. Don't forget though, the volume of cycling didn't increase. In fact, it decreased over the last two weeks as a whole as I rested up for the trip.

@AndyCr15 - sounds like a successful trip!

I’m down to a new low of 91.5kg. It’s nice that I’m now consistently under my original goal weight and seeing the difference in both fit of clothes and in the mirror. Going to keep pushing for that normal range BMI! Will be strange to think about weight maintenance and strength training again after this. There have been some really positive changes to the way I’m eating.

Great work.

My no midweek drinking isn’t going well.
Tuesday I had the afternoon off. Went for a 21 mile bike ride and then recovered with 2 9% double IPAs.
Yesterday again with the afternoon off for an appointment at a local estate agent and then it felt wrong not to stop off for a beer on the drive home.

My theory is that if I can keep it to only 1 drink per day it’s not too bad given I’m generally eating better with less bread and more salads at lunch and then smaller portions in the evening. Along with less snacking. Whilst active exercise is similar, I am walking more generally during the days too which feels nice.

I remember hearing that alcohol will stop... hmm... I think they said, stop your liver helping process... something or other... for 24 hour. Basically, they were saying that one glass of wine each night has a negative effect, not just as calories added, but stopping your liver process fat, or something.

A quick google and you get liver disease stuff, so hard to verify.

Weighed myself yesterday, am currently sat at 12st (76.2kg) exactly. I'm happy with that.

Next target is 75kg, just need to keep doing what I'm (not) doing. But first I have a chicken vindaloo, rice and Bombay potatoes to eat. :D

I think if you listen to the Huberman podcast about alcohol, some minds may change!

I've read in depth about alcohols effect on the body, fat absorption, liver function, etc - however, simply, don't care, I moderate enough to just enjoy when I like :D
Interesting. Do you have a tl;dr?

I mean, it makes no difference to me. Maybe... maybe two or three days a year do I have a drink. I guess I'm just saying, I had heard it wasn't just about the calories of the drink.

You already touched on it above, while there is alcohol in the body, the liver can't process fat essentially - plus a bunch of other things. It's all various information i've read and taken in over the years - no specific single source.

Well today I start Michael Moseley's Fast 800 Keto and so I got weighed and measured.

Height - 6ft 2in
Mass - 17st
Waist (naval) - 46in

Pretty horrific to be honest! For my height I should have <37 inch waist, which looks hilarious when you overlay this measurement on top of my stomach. So much blub to lose.

The reason that I've chosen this diet approach is that I've done keto before and feel that the lack of hunger to be the main benefit versus other diets.

Has anyone else here tried the fast 800 keto diet?

My initial plan is as follows, but is subject to change depending on how I get on:

12 weeks of fast 800 keto
6 weeks of 3:4
6 weeks of 5:2
Low carb Mediterranean diet to maintain

My kryptonite is beer/pizza/chips, so going forward I'm going to fully ban myself from these items as I can easily consume a days worth of calories in one ditting and I am completely unable to manage these items in moderation.

As before 3 or 4lbs will drop almost straight off as I get strict again.
So, it's even more than I thought. I kind of expected it, but it's interesting to see the changes -

12th March about 15st 2 or 3
Eat more to build up energy for trip
23rd March (morning of flight) 15st 6
28th March (day after landing) 15st 12
This morning 15st 5

I'm rather pleased as I don't have far to go to get ready for the next trip in June.

Oh yes and was so miserable that I barely lasted a week. It doesn't fit my lifestyle at all. I lost most of my weight doing keto, yes, but not even counting calories at all! 800 is way too low for anyone, even the most overweight people. I would not go lower than 1200kcals what ever weight you is.
