*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I was thinking about the ADF but I'm not sure how I'd be able to handle running on those fasting days. I'm starving enough when I've finished a run and then to not be able to eat anything... With two fast days a week I can time them to be the days when I sit on my arse playing on the PC. The other five, I'm either doing running or light weights.

Have you been doing it a while now, @neoboy ?

Did it in March for almost 2 weeks and had good experience (dropped from 118kg to 113kg) but then lost my job, gyms closed etc and discipline fell apart as it's difficult to maintain fasting days stuck in the house with a fridge full of food!

I was doing the 5x5 in the gym on eating days and frankly didn't feel any different from power point of view (not that I'm lifting particularly heavy). I feel better running on an empty stomach anyway so no change there as I run on fast days.

See how I get on this week now that I'm semi adjusted to new home routine.

And was it a complete zero calorie intake on those days or did you eat 500/600/800kcals? The woman in the USA who came up with "The Every Other Day Diet" said she saw great results with people still eating (but a lower amount) on fast days. It might be more manageable.

I just adopted 36/12 method with me eating 125% of my maintenance calories in the 12 hour window. End of the day it's about calories in and out so having a small amount of calories on a "fasting" day would still result in a big calorie deficit.

I simply prefer the bigger intake as it allows me to sneak in plenty of tasty food into my diet that I otherwise couldn't and still get good macros. Was also helping with the power in the gym which is bummer now with them being closed, so doing my best with bodyweight and kettlebell exercises to work against the inevitable muscle loss.

This is definitely on a more extreme scale of a diet and not for everyone, I've always had the ability to go without food for a long time (despite loving it!) so it's not as hard but by no means easy for me.

This is not a long term solution but see how long it lasts to kick start the diet now that I adjusted better to the lockdown lifestyle.

I gave in after 24 hours (6pm tonight) and had a drink of Huel for 500kcals. I'll probably continue to do that now, normal foods one day, then 500 of Huel the next and see what happens.

Well if you stick to it and eat maintenance calories on the other day, you'll lose weight :D

One flip side is that there's no social occasions or spontaneous drinks happening at the moment, but then other problem is being stuck in the house with that fridge!

So fasting day completed and felt good on the run this morning.

Now somehow I've got to eat 2000-odd kcals. I'm going to feel like a pig by the end of the day as I've only been eating 1500 or so this month.

I'm still plugging away at a low carb diet. Not quite keto levels as there are a few treats I can't quite give up (Scotch Eggs are awesome!). Having some difficulty getting suitable veg at times due to poor stock levels too.

Had some trouble with cellulitis to start the year too which is finally resolving and I've dropped 30lbs in 3 weeks (water weight mostly!) but trending in the right direction which is encouraging from a mental standpoint.

All this while eating pizza, brownies, egg custard! Not to say it's all I eat but still :)

Now I'm down around my target weight I've been eating around 3,000 cals a day, sometimes poking over that with my evening snacking. Two days ago I weighed in at 15st 4 which is up 6lbs on a few weeks back which got me a little concerned. I looked back on MyFitnessPal at what I are a year ago, when I was hitting 1,700 calories a day... wow... I don't know how I did it tbh. Still, it motivated me to do better and I was coming in last night around 1,900, so I let myself have an extra protein bar before bed. Then I had a bad nights sleep and used two more snacks to help me sleep through :( lol. Still finished at 2,500 which isn't too bad. Weight myself this morning and I'm back to 14st 13 again already. I think two days ago I weighed myself too close to having eaten a lot (purely in volume) a few days before. You have to give your body 3 days to process and pass it all I think. Still, I was panicing that mabe my 3,000+ days were catching up on me, but I don't think they were. I'll aim at 2,750 for the moment though, with lots of cycling still. (The fact that I think three people said to me yesterday 'are you still losing weight?!' should tell me it's all fine)

Can only dream of 15 stone mark at the moment, be lucky if I get near 16 this year.

Never thought I'd say this though as I hate them, but wish gyms would open again as I definitely feel muscle mass going down. Only so much you can do with bodyweight and a kettlebell.

Did an hour on the treadmill this morning, 5km at a fast walking pace and a decent incline so quite happy with how that's going. My kness don't like me running and I can't go outside currently.
I sort of feel in the 'weight loss/fitness zone' and things get a lot easier for me when that happens. Low carb, lots of salads and veg, and no snacking is where I need to be.

OK that's all my preconceptions out the window! I was going to ask why all the snacking and wouldn't a glass of water satisfy the hunger pangs but you don't seem to be doing much wrong lol!

Ha ha, thanks. While some people are probably doing better than me diet wise at the moment, I'm generally still burning 700 to 1,500 calories a day through exercise (and generally still eating under 3,000 cals) so I think that is keeping things in check. I think I know I can drop weight if I need, so to an extent I'd like to ease up on the calorie restriction. Most meals are only 350-500 cals (Huel, low cal ready meal, Muscle Food Prepped pot) and I wonder if I increase a meals cals, will I snack less? Dangerous if I don't I guess...
