Bigscreen Beyond PCVR Headset

The only reason I'm thinking of keeping my Index setup is that this headset looks interesting and can use the base stations and controllers.

I suspect it Ty was asked not to release this comparison sooner. The original comparisons he made, made 0 sense in terms of the modern headset landscape.

Beyond has best blacks, and if that's what's key for you, then that wins it. But otherwise, pico 4 and quest pro win on clarity, especially edge to edge.

Always think it's funny how you can see the pixels so easily on the Pro on the zoomed in pictures, then realise that it's probably more to do with the fact that the lenses are so clear, than the fact the pixels have large spaces around them etc.

Yep the Pro looks massively sharper there, even though the screen door seems more apparent.
I'm surprised at the small sweet spot on the Beyond. Pico 4 looks very good though.

The DCS cockpit in the beyond looks best to me but for AC i agree pico comes out in top.

Beyond is atill strong contender for me for index upgrade

I take all these youtube reviews and through the lens videos with a pinch of salt. Some of those clips had the quest pro looking amazing, yet I didn't like mine when I had it.

Ya I call BS. No way you are making a pathetic 1800×1920 resolution look "good" just because it has good lenses. I fell for that before and most people are smoking crack.

When I saw the $1,500 QPRO actually had lower resolution than their $299 Quest 2 I literally laughed out loud.

You'd be surprised. In use it is massively clearer than any other VR headset I've tried. G2 owners claim it looks clearer across the whole image than the G2.

It's not just the raw resolution specs that govern how clear and sharp a headset is, it's the whole optical stack, including the panel types, lenses, and software.

I understand that looking at the raw resolution specs you'd expect the Pro to look bad, but it's different in reality, at least when connected to a PC and set to a decent bitrate.

Really shaping up to be THE VR headset to have. Thinking about cancelling my Crystal order.
If form factor is very important to you then i agree, and the basic specs are very good. No wireless and needing to buy/use basestations and controllers are negatives for me. Also, wouldn't resale be difficult when trying to sell it after you'd replaced it with something new, due to the personalised fitment of the hmd?

You see, it's this which is a big positive for me as it keeps the weight down. Not having to use an SOC, battery, cameras and all the other gubbins required to get it to work. My use case is 100% sim racing though, so if I was playing other games then maybe I'd be looking elsewhere.

I think I've pretty much resigned to the fact that this year I'll be buying two headsets. Bigscreen and quest3.

Unfortunately there are very few headsets coming out with a displayport so very limited choice. Resale is a pain, but I can't see anything like this coming out which would make me want to upgrade. There's deckard, but it won't be anything like this.

Thats the issue with this headset. The resale value is utterly trash.
Also because its only a VR headset, at £1.1k .. its expensive. No audio, no controllers.

I almost want to just wait for the Apple VR headset and see if any PC modders can make it applicable to SteamVR on PC and then I can just buy controllers. Okay two different price points.. but this headset to me just feels like it shouldbe around £700... £1150 excluding audio is just... insane.

Correct me if i'm wrong but iirc ive read somewhere the beyond face gasket can be relatively easily be replaced, so someone who bought a beyond 2nd hand could just replace the gasket.

How? How much will that cost? Will Big screen cash in another £100-£200 for the bespoke gasket?

VR is in such a messy direction. We don't even know if Valve will be using base stations for the INdex 2. There is a potential someone will buy base stations, index controllers and a big screen VR headset - only to find out Valve have mastered inside out tracking. which means you're stuck with abespoke made VR headset and gen 1 pre-historic (by that point) sensors.

VR is in such a weird place. Part of me thinks buy a PSVR2, enjoy the experiences on there and hopefully by the time you've burnt through the VR library - PCVR will be a bi more standardised.
The issue with that is... I'm sure I could burn through PSVR2s exclusive library in a month (max!).

I'd go as far as to say the Big screen's price tag makes the Apple VR headset look cheap.
-Better displays
-On board processing
-Top class audio
- Top class OS/Software
- an actual laptop grade processor on the headset
- best in class pass through
- motion controls best in class
etc. etc.

Now of course, its a poor comparison as the APple headset can't be used for PCVR as of right now - but from a hardware perspective, the £1.2k vs £3.5k ... is very apparent in why its so much more, and dare I say the Apple VR headset should be more MORE expensive given BGS's price tag.

There is just so much lacking, for such a high price tag on the big screen. I think its hard to digest and argue from a value proposition how poor it is and how quickly i will become outdated potentially. I can only imagine their profit margins per headset must be very high to mitigate any risk. And the glare on it does not look promising too!
