That's nuts! Who are you with? When my bike was taken, my insurance were fantastic (Carole Nash using Aviva.) They had me a brand new replacement within 4 weeks and didn't bother to wait for the police to investigate - the claim was settled before the police closed the case.

I'm sure I saw a stolen bike last night. Two young kids with only helmets, on a bike with no number plate - they were going at least 60 in a 30 too.

I was with Aviva last year and had a far from great experience with them and my MT getting written off, so went with the cheapest this time - Hastings.

More sightings of my bike coming in and 2/3 other triples of the same age being taken over the last few days in the same area, so obviously the same lot doing it. Spent all day searching, and getting some great info from a group of lads on a facebook group. The net is closing!

Got Friday off and the weather is looking dry, might take a run out Wales way and then a strip down of the brakes is in order over the weekend.

Standard Suzuki cheese bleed nipples are looking rough as balls already so ordered up some nice Ti replacements. £15 for front and rear which is about £7 less than a set of OEM replacements.

Test rode a Street Triple RS last weekend. Great bike. The brakes and suspension on it are amazing. The engine is very smooth. Quickshifter got some taking used to, very odd coming from a 'manual' bike but great once you get the hang of it :p

Might put a deposit down if the Superduke doesn't impress me.

I like the short wheelbase on the Streets, I bet it goes through bends like knife through butter. :D

Edit
Had a go on an SMC690R today, it was so much fun! The front just shoots up without clutching it up, I didn't wheelie as, soon as I felt the front going light I let go. The owner did a 2-3 miles wheelie, I want an SM now! :D

Have a question. Been reading lots of bike reviews, even those which relate to bikes well outside of my budget.
One thing that keeps cropping up is the success of Yamaha's MT range. Both the MT-07 and the MT-09.

Question is, why blow 10k+ on a Speed Triple when you can have the MT-09 for 4k less? They appear to be evenly matched at just about everything (although most reviewers say the MT-09 nails suspension where as the Speed Triple is a little vague up front + very stiff for road use).

Is it just the name? Personally I feel the MT-09 is a little too plasticky. But that's about it.

Thoughts? Why do people buy Speed Triples/Monster/MV Agusta for comparatively extortionate prices.

MT-09 is a cheaper competitor to the Street Triple not the Speed Triple. The Speed is a completely different kind of bike.

The Street Triple has a better chassis and throttle response, and the degree of improvement for the suspension and brakes over the MT-09 varies with the model you buy. Then you have the fit and finish if those things matter to you.

The difference isn't huge though and the MT-09 represents excellent value for money.

The skill is pulling from the lights quickly, without wheelying like a crazy person ;).

If you can, try out a 701 - it's a 690, but more refined. I'd go for the '16 model engine though - it's a bit more arm rippingly brutal.

Tbh, I was contacted by some bike recovery firm who handled the replacement through aviva, and I pretty much ignored aviva and pushed things with those guys. Aviva was still sending me letters after I received my bike. So perhaps it was the other firm who gave me the opinion Aviva are good.

Hopefully you manage to get you bike back in the next day or so! Would you consider a tracker? Since my first bike was stolen, I've always had a tracker fitted (currently biketrac). A bit up front, and £9 a month subscription - but it does give piece of mind.

The finish and quality of a Triumph is superior to a Yamaha - as you say the MT-09 (and 07) look and feel plasticky.
It's not all about picking a bike that goes faster or has a bigger engine.
I like the colour, the Brembos, Ohlins, quickshifter, LCD screen, rider modes, ride by wire and the weight. I currently ride a 225kg old school monster and it'll be nice to switch to something to light with more power.

As I said, I need to get on the KTM first and if that blows me away then I'll get that. It's 4 grand more though :(

(that's all on the Street by the way, the Speed is a different bike as Kree has mentioned :) )

Definitely! The suspension eats up the road, feels great.

I've been observing EXC's and SMC's for a few weeks now and most come up between 4-5k. I doubt I'll get a Husky in that price range, the other thing is... I'll be an idiot at times on the bike and will most likely drop it in the process so prefer to spend a bit less. :p

Ohlins, right? Was it hard or spongey, or a mixture of both?

Maybe I already have :p
Wouldn't be surprised lol

I'm absolutely considering it, yeah. Not really about getting the bike back, because tbh I'd feel weird riding it knowing how many little ballsacks have been thrashing it around, but would be a great way of pinning it on one of them.
Have you had to use yours?

Have you had to use yours?

Happily, no! It does notify you if someone starts messing with your bike too - this is the thing that gives me piece of mind.

If you are going to get one fitted, check out this guy: https://bikealarmman.com

He'll drive out and fit it at your house. A benefit is, he will really hide it. The first tracker I had, the garage simply dumped it under the seat - it had a big "GPS" logo on it - making it blatantly obvious what it was. I paid that guy to fit my current tracker, and you'd really have to strip my bike down to find it.
