Tail tidy arrived today.

So this weekend I need to fit the tail tidy, levers, oil guard and just waiting on the akropovic headers and an AR exhaust.

Positive, it cost me £11.40 odd to fill up, that's just over 9L, it's saying miles to empty, 118! :p

The XR has a quirky fuel gauge - it won't show more than 155 miles range. When you fill up and turn the engine on, the fuel indicator bars rise and before they hit the top the range tops out at 155. They then keep going but the range will not increase any further.

I ran my range down to zero on a weekend trip to Wales earlier this year, and I was crapping myself as many other riders have reported how accurate the fuel gauge is at the lower end. I did a few miles on zero before finally being able to stop for fuel. End result? The tank took 18.5 litres, so there's either 1.5 litres that isn't useable or I've got another 10 - 15 miles in the tank.

I've been brought up on Aprilia fuel gauges though, where you can ride with maximum fuel for ages, then drop down to near reserve in 20 miles. I tend to work on the miles instead - if I'm on the motorway then I really should be looking for fuel if I'm near 200 miles since the last stop. If I'm having a bit more fun then I'll start to look for a stop at around the 150 mile mark. The engines on our bikes are pretty much the same, but the XR has a slightly larger tank - 20 litres IIRC.

My r1200r seems to be accurate and will go above 200miles, I fully agree with using your odometer though - having ride old bikes for a long time I am used to gauging fuel level from miles travelled, once you know your bike it works a treat and is reliable.

Has anyone else noticed gloves seem to have really long thumbs these days? All my gloves from a couple of years ago have sensible thumb lengths compared to general glove size but I've tried to buy some more recently and they seem to have decided that everyone's thumbs have gotten lanky.

Funny you should say that, my new Rica gloves have massive thumbs - odd!

@Clov!s, that bike is just so damn sexy. ;)

Needed some replacements for my old worn out A* SP2s, was looking for something with no padding and plenty of feel.

Found some Racer gloves on Amazon for £80 and they fit the bill perfectly, really nice soft leather, Ti knuckles, Knox Scaphoid protectors, finger bridge and superfabric on the slide areas. Little snug at the moment but should be perfect once broken in.

Unfortunately white/red was the only cheap colour combo, think I'll grab some black leather dye and dye the white bits. Stop them showing up the muck and blend with my other kit better.

Was slightly warm :p roads are perfect though and it's fine if you keep moving.

Might have to get my old mesh RST Ventilator top out.

I've taken out all the thermal gear, just boxers and a t-shirt on under my leathers, opened up all the vents too.

Loads of cars out though in this heat, traffic everywhere.

It's too warm even in Kevlar jeans and a mesh jacket if you have to stop, thought I was going to melt into a puddle while I was in the garage this morning.

Yeah, covered 100 miles after work this morning, just over Whitchurch, way too hot for me in leathers, stayed at the cafe for all of 5 minutes, hammered a can of pop and came home!
