Bin men don't lift bags left outside the bin?

Yeah it's a bit annoying. Especially when you buy something which comes with a lot of polystyrene and have to spend 8 weeks squeezing bits of it in the spaces between your two black bags in the wheelybin

yup same here.. !

annoying to say the least especially when tax is far from cheap.

one SMALL wheelie bin collected every two weeks. A joke. Always overflowing!

funny thing, neighbors next door have 2 big wheelie bins !?

I thought there was a few reason why they do this. I know there was a little reminder leaflet put through and one of the reasons which did make sense was to discorouge people leaving rubbish out that can be torn open and spread around by foxes (Surrey is full of them).

Another important reason is to keep streets hygienic. Sounds silly from the perspective of us normal people but if you see a road of students at the end of term when they are all moving out, you can see why there is a fuss

I would also expect some sort of issue if they were to pick up the bag, it splits causing rubbish to go everywhere? At least if everything is in a wheely bin, it's somewhat contained.

If one does split, is it the guys collecting rubbish that will have to spend time picking up X amount of items causing them to get behind schedule or would they leave it for the home owner to deal with? What about if there's dangerous items like broken glass in the bags?

Then wear the appropriate PPE...if only types of gloves existed that allowed on to handle sharp objects.

If only they were readily available and cheap.

Round here they wont take anything which doesnt fit in the bin.

You should have taken them to the tip or not generated as much rubbish.

In fact, if your bin lid doesnt close then they dont empty the bin as I found out one week :(

I just spent 20 minutes sorting out the large recycling bins so I could put out stuff in there because inconsiderate ***** that live around here don't give a ****.

The cardboard and paper bins are always overflowing because:

a) the council don't give us enough of them for the number of people who use them
b) don't collect them enough for the size of bin they are
c) people don't bother to even break down their boxes so all it takes is a few tv sized boxes to fill one of the bins.
d) people can't even be bothered to separate out the different things in the box so they leave the polystyrene and plastics bits from whatever they have bought in the box and just chuck it all in the cardboard recycling.

If it doesn't go in there people quite often just leave **** beside the bins like wardrobes, broken chairs etc.

I don't get it. We live in a no-rental area of flats and the flats cost an arm and a leg because we are within 20 miles of london. We had someone just leave a massive sand sack (about 2mx2m) in our underground garage for a few months full of **** as well last year.

This, lid has to be firmly shut otherwise they won't empty it and we're on two week rotation between recycle and normal waste.

Same here on both counts - though its 50/50 if they actually will empty it (if its slightly open they often do) - they always leave any additional bags.

Here in Lincs the black bin must not have the lid even slightly open or they won't take it, also definitely no side waste will be taken.
Grey bin (recyclables) also needs to be closed but they will take cardboard boxes such as tv packaging left alongside the bin. I flatten any excess boxes and place them all alongside in the largest box.
If your household is bigger than normal you can ask the council for a larger capacity bin (black and grey) to be provided, we have both and they're double the normal capacity.
YMMV

At the top of government are psychopaths who are educated and ruthless.
At the mid-levels of government are indifferent people who are mostly concerned with themselves and spend their time inventing rules and meetings to justify their existence.
At the lower levels of government are petty bureaucrats who are bitter about not making it to the mid-levels and having to follow the stupid rules of their masters, and who take pleasure in grinding down the few people below them.
At the bottom are employees who are scared to do anything not by the rulebook because they know they'll get chewed out for it by the petty bureaucrats who hire and fire and mark them down.

Think of it as a set of child's building blocks, made out of evil.

Ours are really good (South Bucks), they will take bags and chuck them in the lorry while the bin is being emptied. Same for recycling, you can leave tons of cardboard boxes next to the wheelie bin and they take it.

You think that's bad?

We always recycle and one day " SOMEONE " put " ONE sainsburys ******* bag " in our full recycle bin and they didn't take any of it. To think years ago bin men actually did a far better job. Oh and I've done this job when I was doing work experience and many of them are useless

Seriously? A collection every 2 weeks and they don't expect a general waste bin to overflow once in a blue moon.

AFAIK this is the way, the expect a closed lid, I've only ever known bags to be lifted it is Christmas week, or if there has been a bank holiday with no collection.
In the past 10 years or so of driving past bins in different areas almost every day of the week, I've never seen a blue/black bin with bags sitting beside it, occasionally the odd overflowing one, but never anything more.
