Bin men don't lift bags left outside the bin?

They do the same here. We even went out and asked them if they could take them as we were overflowing and still had a load more to fill the bin with and they refused. I suppose if you work day in, day out with a crap job like that you start to become a miserable ****.

you think this stinks. my offices "council tax" is way higher than that of a house, and doesn't include any sort of waste collection what so ever!

Luckily waste collection is a fairly low cost thing. For those who really don't want to be worrying about waste, you can get a biffa bin for £17 per month once a month visit. Can chuck whatever you fancy in their. General waste, recycling waste, staff you want to get rid of that are still within their 6 month probation period. Anything.

Seriously? A collection every 2 weeks and they don't expect a general waste bin to overflow once in a blue moon.

Actually we find now that we recycle properly that the general waste bin is hardly ever half full every fortnight.

Its the recycling bins that I sometime struggle for space and have to go the the local recycling centre.

I'm in the Ribble Valley and very often stick a couple of extra black bags outside, also i have three cardboard bags i fill every two weeks (1 is the norm). They always take them plus my lid is always sticking up a bit.

I tip the bin men £20 every year, I realise this is small and would be difficult to distribute but it's a gesture.

I hear a lot of stories online etc about bin men being funny with collections, I don't know why they're like that! Like they cannot be bothered. Maybe the job is horrible. I'd love a job with little responsibility.

My old boss used to tip them £100 each year. Probably why even when hes put about 5 wheelie bins worth of rubbish out some weeks it always gets taken.

Generally bin lids need to be closed. My uncle use to be a bin man years ago, said it was because some people were leaving glass etc in general waste and some guys had been injured when lifting the bags, others were burst and the team would have to sort that out making the run late.

It makes sense frankly, if you don't have space in the bin take it to the local refuse site or leave it to the side/ in the hut and shove it in the bin once it's emptied.

Op your at fault.
Read the guidance.

I was provided no guidance. Others have said they get leaflets through the door, I've had none. At my previous address we never had these issues. I assumed in this case, common sense would prevail - My street in general recycles well and there's never overflowing bins, it was a one off.

However, as I said in the OP, I thought I'd question it first before mouthing off to the council :p

I'm surprised to hear others saying the bin men don't touch the bins unless the lid is fully closed. A relatively small bin with a 2 week collection period, absolute joke for the taxes.

well round our way they won't take the bin unless the lid is shut.

Same.

Something about if the bin is overflowing, then you mustn't be recycling enough. Even with a family of five, I've never not been able to fit everything inside the bin - although I have been known to get in the bin and jump up and down to squish it all down a bit.

That's only for the black "non recycling" bin though. They'll take extra cardboard/paper if you leave it beside card/paper recycling sack or extra cans/bottles if you put them in a box beside the can/bottle recycling bin.

They don't have a separate garden waste collection anymore, so that either goes in my compost bin or in the non recycling bin.
