BitFenix Prodigy ITX build

YOUR A BOSS! this will be Ideal :)

I will be getting all this in about 2 months lol :O a while away xD.

But thats when im getting my I7.

NICE :) i would love to do it but i have just spent way too much on this build as it is ;)

as for the fittings i think you will mainly be using 45's and 90's, what you will need to do is some research on the rad! it is very thick but i chose it due to the cooling capabilities and it cooling the cpu and gpu. as it is so thick you may find it hard to pipe the gpu with ease as the rad, with fans, may almost sit on top the gpu! i know power bit do some very imaginative fittings so have a look at them :)

I found this which is great help for what i want to do ;)

right so here we go... pics might be a bit big... not sure as they are from my dropbox.

IHS is off :) look at all that gunk :p

some info about it.... getting the IHS was surprisingly hard... used one of these retractable craft knives with only a bit of the blade out to start (was worried it would be too easy to cut through the goo and didn't want to slide the die)

after doing each corner i pulled a little bit more of the blade out and proceeded to work from corner down the edge till the blade was in parallel with the side of the IHS and about 4-5 mill under.

after much more easing it finally pushed through and i was lucky the blade went straight into my finger before it could hit the silicone die xD

after some TCP and a plaster i was ready to go on. I used the craft knife to carefully scrape away at the grey/black sealant and removed most of it off processor and the inside of the IHS. next i used some industrial meths and cotton buds to clean away the intel **** paste :p .

I then used the abrasive pad supplied with the liquid pro on the inner surface of the IHS to get rid of some of the ingrained paste and cleaned it again with meths. I did the same for the outer surface of the IHS too... can no longer see the writing... but oh well... ;) (also cleaned the H80 black with the pad and cotton buds with meths in a similar fashion)

then used the meths on the DIE itself and cleaned it up carefully.

after i left them to dry for a bit i gave a final rub with cotton buds to check there was no residue on anything left. next i installed the CPU in place in my mobo (pc on it's side ofc :p )

next i did a test squeeze of the liquid pro onto some paper towels.... not much pressure is needed atall to get this stuff out so i recommend doing the same to get a feel for it. then put a small drop on the die and began to spread it with the cotton buds provided.

this stuff is a bit weird to spread.. at first it didn't seem to stick but then after a few ****/wipes it began to we the surface and became much easier to spread.... and with this stuff a little really goes a long long way..

so with the schizz spread over nicely i the carefully "placed" the IHS back onto the chip... now this was fiddly as hell!!! and i highly recommend removing any other hardware from around it i.e ram, gfx card, water blocks. as i put it on slightly squiff and then had to ever so slightly tap the edges with a scalpel to coax it back into a decent alignment. and btw i didn't use ad double sided tape... couldn't find any xD but i imagine it would help to stop it moving about more.

once i was happy it was reasonably straight i pulled the clamp down (which moved it again slightly but only by 1mm max :p ) and thanked god that bit was over with.... just the easy stuff left.

so i then put another small amount on the top of the IHS and spread it out in a similar manner... i did see there was a little bit of excess and really didnt fancy is spilling out the sides so i took a clean cotton bud and wiped a few times so it would pick up a little each time.

then the H80 block on and tightened... job's a good 'un :D

then came the moment of truth... would it turn back on or had i killed everything xD turned on the PSU switch and the mobos green light came on.... so far so good. went to turn the pc on..... nothing...

OH ****!!!!!! checked the mobo light... it had gone out.... uh oh.... luckily it was just the kettle lead had come loose... a firm push back it... a switch on.... and IT LIVES!!!!

in summary.... rather fiddly... take you sweet time... don't rush EVER! less is more. and check your power leads xD

Ok heres the deal this is what is arriving monday.

1) new corsair H100, out of which all i need is one screw
2) Corsair SP fans

i have only bought two for my H100 IF they are as quiet and as good as the reviews say then i will deck my case in them :)

3) craft knife

So the plan is, oven cook the cpu for 20mins @ 80c then once nice and hot lop the top off clean it up and liquid pro the lot.... i will of coarse be posting lots of pics :)

Curious to see how these fans are if you could let me know once all up and running?

Probably looking at them for my build also. Did you get the quiet or "high performance" version?

i did go for the HP version only coz i will use them with my fan controller is see how they perform at lower RPM's but still have the head room for high RPM's if i need too ;)

yer i will send you a message in trust once my results are up :)

Fans arrived today and in a totally non scientific test i can say that at full pelt they are about 10% quieter than the stock corsair fans and they feel like they shift a lot more air!

over all very happy :)

my liquid pro still has not turned up but i will be chopping the top off my cpu so i will take lots of images and post them and the results once it has arrived.

from my OC thread

Make of these what you will, i have used MX5 (for now!) on the CPU and IHS, but i will be using liquid pro when it decides to arrive.

CPU Cooler H100, 10 mins of prime @ stock, MX5 on IHS only

CPU Cooler H100, 10 mins of prime @ stock, MX5 on CPU and IHS

Im very impressed :D

ridiculous results!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait to get liquid pro

how i chopped the top off

So this is the knife i bought -

it has a very thin blade but still there was only one corner i could get it under to begin with, once it was under i down to the next corner, to the next, to the next.

This were my tools of mass destruction! lol

This is what it looked like once i got the lid off but thats not the end of it

This is what it looked like after a long time spent cleaning it, the silicon is a biznitch to get off the IHS

I used my finger nails to clean off the silicon, it was too dodgy with the knife, it just took a while ;)

If you take a look at where the notch is for the socket locator, notice i did nip the pcb :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

luckily it was the very edge!

Hahaha! I kind of loosened my wifi antene connect port at the back of the mobo ill fix it tommorow when i take it out to put the antec on XD

Im ordering me a cable sleeving kit and the works to braid all my none modular cables on the TX750 :D i cant possibly bosh that up i hope.

I was thinking i could use tweesers to pull out the pins?

you will be better off buying an atx pin removal tool, i have sent you an email ;)

Those are both very nice builds Buzz and Allnamestaken. I have been drooling over those cases and I know what my next upgrade will be if funds allow.

I admire your steady hands and the nerves of steel needed to play around with your CPU like that. I guess the cider has the same benefit as a few pints before a game of pool at the pub :D

lol deffo ;)

So here is my build finished :) with de lidding done!!

Before de lidding and cable tidy

After de lidding and cable tidy

the cables in the bottom right are there for another drive i use as my back up but do not have in this case ;)

Its been really fun doing this build as i stated in the beginning i have never done one this small before and tbvh im so pleased i have as it is a build a can easily move around and customise in the future.

ty for following and i will still be hear to help where i can, and ty bitfenix for making the most amazing case :)

My word, that's pretty! I've been thinking about getting the white one. :)

Details please? :)

i will email you a link, its the best atx removal tool i have found, its very stong and cheep ;) iv gone through 3 atx pin removal tools and this is the best

Bro have you connected the front panel connectors? ? didnt look like you had lol.

your talking to a pro, of coarse i......................... DOH! :p

OOO love the Corsair fans in there.

Have been thinking about them myself for my H100 (currently have GT 1850s). Bought my H100 used and have had to RMA it so haven't been able to see how quiet the GT's are yet, but if they are too noisy I have read good good things about the SP fans :)

Hopefully will finally have my Prodigy build finished next weekend once I get my new H100 returned to me.

Nice! are you doing a build log? the fans are amazing i will be decking my case in the HP AF fans, two 120's at the front and a 140 in the rear ;)
