BitFenix Prodigy ITX build

Hey buzz! You have a great machine there. This thread has made me
Change my mind 100s of times. I didn't know the h100 fits in the top.
I still want the use of a DVD drive but I may go external for the amount of times I use the one I have at the moment witch is very rare. I think I could live with a external drive.

Also explain the delidding?

All the info you need on de lidding is here and honestly you will not miss your ODD, get a cheep external DVD and just buy a couple of cheep USB drives and make a bootable win 7 usb, etc.

pity the graphic card power connector doesnt plug in at the back, lookslike you just managed to clear the h100

a nice 7850 would look good in there plus the 6pin plug is on the rear of the card not the top, just my opinion

nice build though, have you overclocked the ram yet?

yer ram is oc's, got 2133MHz 9-10-10-21-1T with tight secondary timings, anything above 2133 is rubbish thou, the board does not allow for thirds so i cant get good timings above :(

i dont need a different GPU as i dont game on this machine ;)

Hey buzz how did you cut down your mounting bracket lol? Amazon sent me a new 620 today and I found the easiest solution without a dremel was to heat up a knife and slice right through the plastic lol............................ghetto precision cutting.

I am also Rma'ing my motherboard for a electrical buzz coming from the PCI-e socket which seems to be also making my graphics card buzz a lot more then it normally is when i use it on another motherboard also Rma'ing the graphics card for same issue O_O

all i used was a junior hacksaw and patience ;) you will find things easier with a dremel, my back plate is metal so was a little tougher than a plastic one!

Do it. I got rid of my DVD drive and went external as I rarely used one.

Good to have for those moments when nothing but a DVD/CD will do but apart from that it was never used.

Although burn speeds arent as quick as internal drives so if you mainly do that with your drive it might not be a great move.

^^ this but i use bootable usb's as well ;)

What is the fan controller (I think its a fan controller) that you installed in one of the HDD bays, looks really clean. (So does the build) ;)

@SoundDoctor ty for the comps :) please configure your trust so i can email you :)

"i will email you a link, its the best atx removal tool i have found, its very stong and cheep iv gone through 3 atx pin removal tools and this is the best"

pls, me too....
ty

@h0thipp0 please configure your trust so i can email you

Mobo: Either the Asrock/Asus although the GB looks interesting!
The Asrock does seem to have some issues with cooler installation due to poor placement of fixings on underside of pcb.

Yes the Asrock does have some issues but i have to say they were easy to over come, modding is an enjoyable part about building PC's, dont be put off if you have to adapt some things.

Yes the Asus does a better layout but will cost more, i think the layout of the SATA ports is poor on the Asus if you look they will be very close to what ever high end air cooler you get and wont be easy to tidy away

(taken from another itx build on the forum HERE)

see where all four SATA ports are right by the top right of the cooler and in between the PCI-e

See here how the USB 3.0 header is touching the PCI-e and the front audio would nearly be touching the bottom?

IMO this looks untidy

Co0ler: H80/H100 or H2O 920
General advice is forget the H80, so possibly the H100 or H20?

DO NOT GET THE H80 for the love of god!!!!!!!, i have seen the H20 920 fit on the roof but not in the way it was intended to and i believe you loose the use of a further 120mm fan on the roof, if you have the funds get an H100, i have been very happy with mine.

Im happy to l0ose the ODD, so assume the H100 would be fitted at the top, however, I do wonder if the fans are blowing out or sucking in? Surely blowing out of the top of the case, would be pushing the warm air inside the case over the rad. Would it not be better having the cooler air outside of the case being sucked in?

The case is small and VERY airy, i have two 120mm fans on the front sucking in, two 120mm blowing out the roof (H100) and one 120mm blowing out the rear plus the GPU card blowing out the side panel. I can hand on heart say even when working/ gaming i feel NO hot air from the roof, when im stress testing yes i can but thats coz my CPU is at 100% load!!

Even if it were hot inside it would only raise the temps a couple of degrees IMO

I you need to bare in mind the heat from the CPU is being transferred to the rad and out the case there is not much heat in the case.

The only issue i have is that i have a problem with shiny things! i saw the prodigy and boom went in head first....... now iv seen the ghost....... BOOM head first again.

I still have mine :) and loving it..

I haven't decided if im going to sell the case yet..... i may turn it into a home server ;)

Just wondering if anyone else with the Prodigy has notice a kind of glitter like finish on the side panel(s) that kind of looks like when you get a thin layer of dust on a black mtal surface?

Nope, mine are fine, can you provide any images?
