Black Desert Online

On the subject of grind, PearlAbyss (the studio behind it) have said that most quests won't have XP rewards, so you'll have to grind monsters to level. I don't know about you, but that sounds like the worst type of grinding to me.

Sweeeeet. That's the best way to play an MMO. That grabs my attention more than anything else so far, will be keeping an eye on this.

this will be good as long as your required to group up to grind, due to a high number of mobs walking around in packs or "epic mobs" roaming around. grinding mobs on your own is just boring!

I'm the same. My first MMO was SWG so I am definitely used to a sincere lack of "quests" and a lot of group hunting :D

I have absolutley no confidence in this, but I hope it is amazing.

It all depends on the how good the combat feels. If the mechanics of the classes make smashing faces in fun I'll be happy to grind it out for hours :p

From what I've read this does seem like the most favourable Korean MMo release in a looong time. Alas, we shall find out soon !!

those one million rats, cats, dogs needs to die.
again.

Mechanics are there to slow down leveling or else its just max level and then endless raids. why make lev 20 content if your max level in a day or two?
this is a cultural difference, grinding is nothing in asia. here instant gratification has spoiled and ruined the MMO scene.

I loved EQ back in the day.
was fun in leveling and I made friends for life.
nowadays its just like I am turd and 12 years old so frak off

?? ??

When I talk about mechanics, I'm talking about skills and how you can approach combat ie gathering up tons of mobs, using CC, nuking and finding out different ways to grind.

Again, I prefer old school grind MMo's ... Lineage, Lineage II, Aion, SWG .. Like I stated a few posts up which you may have missed I don't want kill rat Q's.

Yeah, nothing has touched EQ for me. Calling and claiming camps, making a group and keeping it going, everyone an important part. Combat was simple but it made it possible to really create connections with the people you play with, entire servers were just big communities. Then there's soloing which was awesome, so many different ways to do it. Charm kiting, quad kiting, root rotting, fear kiting, swarm kiting and more. A good puller was worth their weight in gold, as was a good enchanter. I could go on and on, they were the glory days :D

can we get the open Beta on the 12th or is it just Korea only?

The open beta requires you to have an account with a Korean ID linked to it. Theres talk that the Russian beta may only be a couple months away.

after the travesty that was Archeage I will be keeping my eyes on this MMO but the first sign of anything similar I'm out!

Archeage for me was such a disappointment because the game itself i really like and it had so much potential if it had been run differently.

I really like the softcap for leveling, and then being able to grind out more levels, reminds me of the grindd of my first MMO's such as Myth of Soma and Legend of Mir 2.

Ahh Myth Of Soma, my first MMORPG. The grind in that game was pretty ridiculous (Enjoyable at the time, but not so much now :p ), not to mention that you had to know exactly what mob to level on at the right time, or risk out on potential stat loss compared to other players of the same level.

Title to be available in Europe, North America, China next year

By Yoon Sung-won

Daum Games, a subsidiary of Daum Kakao, said Tuesday that it will launch its new game "Black Desert" on Dec. 17.

The company will allow users to play the game for free, except for some additional paid content. It also aims to extend its reach into overseas markets in Europe and North America.

"We have engaged in market research and other preparation to roll out Black Desert in North America and Europe in the latter half of next year," Daum Games CEO Sean Hong said in a press conference at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Yeoksam-dong, southern Seoul, Tuesday. "We hope that Black Desert will revitalize the stagnant online games market."
