Black Mesa Source

IIRC, theres another section you need to power up, have you gotten to the cage lift section yet, with a shedload of houndeyes before it? That's on the way to the generator. If you go back to the blast pit control room, the control panel will tell you which bits are still left to do (red lights)

Completed it last night, was surprised where it ended saying to be continued. It was at a point where I was really getting into the game. When's Black Mesa expansion pack released ? lol

The section on the right of the control panel is red. The thing is I've looked everywhere and can't find the other section at all, I just end up backtracking to the fuel pump area with the two valves. Grrr.

Hint, you need to go out of BOTH exits in the blast pit (excluding the door you use to get in there)

Its the zen levels, they were crap and boring. Only ever played them once to complete it.

What a game :)

I bought HL at launch even though I only had the bare minimum specs for it and it ran like a dog. I managed to finish it properly in 1999 when I got a new PC, P3 450 / Voodoo 3. Oh yes.

I don't remember enough of the original to know exactly what's different, but I feel it's been done to an incredibly high standard and done justice to it's grandfather.

I'm going to finish as much as has been made so far (quite please xen's not in it) and go play HL2/EP1/EP2... when is EP3 out? :(

Got to the second silo, had to prop the barrels up and vault over the hole on them. Part of me tells me that isnt the way to do it though, because I knocked one of the barrles down the hole with the crappy jumping mechanics and only just made it over.

The door on the very bottom floor with the tentacle monster? I went in there and the hole was way to big to jump over.

You mean the hole in the grate flooring? Green acid stuff at the bottom? Use sprint and a crouch jump. That's the door that leads to the generator, if I'm remembering correctly.

Do you realise that was about 14 years ago

Well it was probably more like 10 years since my last playthrough rather than 14, and I did play it through 3 times. But still...

If you'd asked me to describe the story before I played then it would have been *very* spotty (um... aliens come, avoid the tentacle monster, avoid the giant flame creature, launch a rocket, get to lambda core, go to Xen and cry). But, every time I went to a new section it triggered an "ahh, I remember this bit". Especially true in the freezer lockup section - as soon as I entered I knew for some reason that I needed to look for an air-vent high up. Guess I got stuck there a few times when I played the original through..

If i remember correctly you dont need to jump at all look at the edges there is enough left to walk over. Failing that a sprint jump should do it.

I made the noob mistake of doing the first switches, then going all the way back to the firing room on blast pit before it registered i had to go and do another set. For some reason turning two valves had me thinking that i'd supplied both requirements.

Got totally lost on the flooded sections too, started the generator and went the wrong way and ended up back at the section where you get the crossbow! For some reason the piston animation didn't start so i had no way/clue to get to the far side of the room, seemed to be working when i went back though.

Really forgotten how good games are when they don't hold your hand every step of the way. Wonder how well it would sell these days up against the "push x to win" stuff the other studios bring out.

i just hope the release a remake of hldm with it, the map 'bounce' with the new engine would be amazeballs!

HLDM or BMDM is in the works. Most if not maps will be recreated if they were in the original version.

Did I imagine it or was there supposed to be a Grav-gun in this remake ?

There was never going to be a Gravity gun. Any reference found to one in the game will just be remnants of HL2 features/code.

That's spooky, I was exactly the same in the freezer, but I recall starting a overhead conveyor and running across the gap as it was bridged by the passing platform...iirc

Can not explain why I had so much trouble with the trip mines warehouse, Made a relatively painless full circuit around the warehouse right back to where I started :D Then spent 4 hours trying to jump the first beam :D

A conclusion has been drawn though, If you use always run, the ladders are bad ! & if you don't the jumping is ;)

If it's the same bit then I ******* hate that bit :p
prey tell ?

It's the bit near the beginning when you cross a water filled room which has electricity coursing through the joint. You need to get to an air vent on the far side of the room and there's a headcrab inside - he leapt out on the day of release all those years ago and I screamed like a little girl, threw my mouse in the air and very nearly soiled myself.
He didn't get me this time :D

That platform hanging there in that room had me baffled for ages. I don't recall ever getting that far in the original but it all lined up so I just assumed that I had to use it...

Damn boxes...

Great, more vagueness and unfriendly progression. I'm all for it but this is stupid, how can people moan about Dark Souls when this game is much worse for it. I'm at the part with the 'train' and the security guard and the giant OP monster thing. No matter where I go there is nothing, no train to board nothing, just some weird tesla room thing with nothing to do in it. -_-
