Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Average/below average movie 4/10. People need to check their scoring scale if they are throwing an 8/10 on this

My synopsis. Evil Wykandan regime refuses to share technology with the rest of the world, as promised, so they look elsewhere causing a right old kafuffle.

That is in your opinion. Thought it was good considering the main actor died so they did a decent job with what they had so certainly wasn't as bad as a 4/10. Need to check your score Imo

Wakanda has always been evil to me. I did a plot write-up for the first one which laid out why Wakanda, it's rulers and their decisions are evil but Marvel making the cast black somehow made being evil a good thing instead, something to be praised etc.

I mean I did it tongue in cheek to be fair but my points were all still valid and I very much doubt BP2 will make the Wakandian's apologise to the world for their behaviour, I've very sure they'll still be just as evil as in the first film :D

Black Panther - 6/10 - A technologically advanced country has built a wall around itself to block any immigration from its surrounding poorer neighbours, keeping them impoverished whilst it refuses to help out. Their unelected ruler forces his people to work throughout the country, banned anyone leaving unless you agree to act as a spy for the regime whilst he personally hunts down and kills those who do not wish to return. He also restricts the internal movement of his people, preventing them from moving to the more affluent cities and instead leaving them stuck in the harsh outer reaches, either harsh dusty plains or on freezing mountains, where they serve as a border force preventing all illegal immigrants who are escaping repression and rape in their home countries from entering.

However, a brave man comes to challenge this appalling regime, to rip down the walls of oppression and share this wonderful technology with the world yet he is despised by those who have benefited most from it, those who live like royals while the rest can only watch from outer reaches. Eventually the disparity between the haves and have nots erupts into Civil War when an attempted coup on the brave new leader occurs, led by the previous dictator and his SS-like personal guard force who show no mercy, even threatening to kill those they love for choosing a side which wants to open itself up to the world rather than remain in isolation, uncaring to suffering of their neighbours.

Eventually the dictator defeats of brave hero, killing him with a single knife thrust whilst our brave hero refuses to be saved, preferring to die as a free man rather than live as a slave.

I'm not surprised this has been nominated for the Oscars, it's a powerful political story with a real heart and warning about the risks faced when good people try to change a corrupt system.

Saw it yesterday. Solid 7.5 or maybe even 8 out of 10. Not as good as the first film, buy in some ways similar story wise.

Quite a few surprise bits that the trailers didn't reveal. Bad guys were a bit too generic though and just too blue!

Need to watch again when it hits streaming. Might post more thoughts in spoilers after the films been out a bit longer.

Edit: mid credits scene yes, but nothing post credits.

I thought this was ok and def one of the better phase 4 films (with b list super hero) - but phase 4 has def been the worst.

It is about 30 minutes too long though and Martin Freeman's accent continues to be awful.

Hmm given the slating (and having the main actor pass away), I was looking forward to this but it seems to have been hollywood-ed. Really think Hollywood has died a painful death. It may be pumping out movies but rehashing the same movie as a 'reboot' every other year shows it need to take a good look at itself.

7-7.5/10 for me. Good story, loved the back story and culture of the bad guys.

the girl and stateside scenes were weak as part of the story imo. And why wasn't the Winter Soldier at the funeral?

Pros -
Same thought they were were quite clever with Marvel's version of the Atlantians (with a twist ), rather unlike Aquaman and what a great introduction to Namor - the submariner. Very clean and good affects and brought out a version of the character that didnt at first appeal to me before at the end of it i wanted to know more. Hope they do a solo movie.

Cons -
Just a minor plot hole, didnt quite make sense nobody else in MCU tried to Save BP after all they been through, From Dr strange, Dr Pym, Ant-Man, GoT or the anyone in avengers etc. Also agree no one came to the funeral but i guess it could have been only close family of T'challa.

Second best phase 4 movie for me.

I don't know if it's my crappy odeon but the picture seemed really murkey and dim for at least the first half of the movie. A bit hard to see what was going on at times. A lot of it was set at nightime which didn't help but usually these things are artificially lit by a super bright fake moon or street lighting.

I didn't look at my watch at all though, so it kept me very engaged. 19 year old MIT girl was the weakest/most underwritten character for me. The MCU seem to be making a habit of that with new characters, as 'America Chavez' from Dr. Strange was also underwritten IMO

The MCU also seems to be introducing A LOT of children. Hopefully to show the characters with parental responsibility rather than to get them involved in the story too much. Off the top of my head:

Tony's daughter
Thors adopted daughter
Hulks son, scar
Tchallas son

The most out place character for me is

Julia Louis Dreyfus

No idea what she contributed to the movie. I think it wouldn't have made a difference if she was in it or not.

I thought it was very good, 7.5/8 out of 10. I think it was a fitting tribute to Boseman and the story was pretty enjoyable. Visually beautiful as expected, some of the costumes were just amazing. I'm actually glad they didn't try and put a post credit in. I think the tribute at the end was a good way to end it.

5/10

Phase 4 has been entirely forgettable so far, Ironheart put in a terrible performance, Shuri isn't strong enough a character to carry a film, luckily she's had a decent cast around her.

Namor and the lore surrounding the fishpeople was easily the best part of the film.
