Blackberry 9900/9930

Just ordered my 9900 today...finally got my bonus cheque lol...hopefully have it by wed due to bqnk holiday mon:(

for those interested in buying a blackberry on pay as you go its can work out cheaper if you buy it direct from o2 on the o2 50 tarrif at £13.50 plus £179.99 for the phone. cancel the blackberry data bolt on so total cost is £10.50 making total cost of the phone £434.99 if you go through quidco you can get £50 off

you can then either pay the contract off in full or just leave it running

Woot \o/ finally picked up my new 9900 today from cpw, unlocked and unbranded.

Picked it up for £520 as one of my mates works in my local cpw so gave me a discount.

Ended up cancelling my online order.

Awesome and absolutely love it..the ultimate BB device imho.

Whats the battery life like on this phone ive been reading some bad reviews about the battery life

Some devices do suffer from a bad battery but most people are getting good battery life as well.

Ive just got mine today so i havent had a chance to give the battery a full run...ill know after about a weeks useage how the battery is. i intend on trying some new OS's as well to see what sort of battery life i get. Hopefully my battery will be good enough to get me through my work day.

Also you have to remember that sometimes the OS that comes with the device isnt that great so theres always the option to install new OS's which sometimes can have better battery life or unfortunately bad battery life.

And ill just point out that because its got better hardware ie 1.2ghz cpu for the first time in a BB device that invariably it will have an effect on the battery life but knowing RIM they do know how to tweak the radio to give better battery life. And if your getting lots of emails, texts and bbms ie your a heavy user then the battery life will suffer. But i am disappointed that they put such a small capacity battery in as standard due to keeping the phone thin.

The battery is actually quite disappointing, though it's not 'bad', just not what you might expect from a BlackBerry.

Sounds like he didn't want to faff about with a dead handset. Get him to fax/scan/mail the receipt - O2 do want to know as it was brought from them (this is the quickest fix). The second longest fix is you tell RIM the device is under warranty and you are obligated to repair it. If they get shirty say the following:

"I am now recording this call from this moment onwards as proof you will not honour your own warranty. Please reply to the following question - will you honour the warranty on a faulty BB Bold with a broken touchpad that was made less than year ago. The warranty that is defined as"Blackberry Handset Limited warranty" as displayed on your website."

This will probably make the operator force the issue higher up the chain as going on record saying you don't honour your warranty would be pretty amusing if it reached the media. If they ask for proof of purchase say you do not have it but as the device was launched <1 year by their own admission then the requirement for proof is superfluous and you are more than willing to hand over the device for fixing and can read back the serial.

But honestly - call the person you brought it from and inform him it's broken and you will be sending it back. If s/he kicks up a fuss kindly inform him that shipping goods not as described is not acceptable (you may need to record this call) and that as you will have proof it is defective (take a video showing it doesn't work, stick on youtube on private) and has no marks or otherwise indicating that this was done by yourself AND you informed him on the day the device arrived that this is a slam dunk PP dispute win for you either way should he decide not to agree to the return.

My local O2 store took it without a reciept, but were only able to send it off for repair rather than replace, I'm happy with that considering the saving on new.

Looking around, it looks like a common issue.

Decided to go with Geek Squad for my insurance which will cost me around £8 a month after deciding my bank insurance wasn't worth it at £15 a month and I didn't want to upgrade my account and get a new card, plus being tied to a minimum term.

Going to keep it until after Christmas and then see if I still need it. Still planning to get privacy screen protector from Phone Devil though! I had one of theirs for my 9780 and 9300 and it was awesome.

Battery life is pretty poor. While my Curve 9300 would last me 2-3 days, I left for work with a full charge this morning and it was at 20% when I got home. I don't mind charging it every night though since I'll be getting a charging pod

Does anyone know of an app for keeping track of your income and expenses?

Oh, it will last a day of fairly heavy use without any problems. I get 2 days of moderate use out of mine.

Which is about right...people fail to realise that the 9900 has a 1.2 ghz cpu so thats going to affect battery life to a big degree...but what im finding over at crackberry is that quite a few people are getting decent battery life.

Previous blackberrys were under powered so of course they will get brilliant battery life...but RIM made a mistake by putting in a small capacity battery to keep the phone thin.

EDIT: Also wanted to add that some people are getting bad battery life due to some apps not playing nice with OS7...a lot of them have been made OS7 compatible.

Spawn you finally got yours then! :P

And the battery life for me is ok, it lasts me 2-3 days with moderate use! I have a charging dock so don't mind charging it everyday!

Out of interest, what's the best way to treat a new phone battery? Charge fully and flatten, or keep it on charge when possible ie. charging dock? I've always run my battery until it pretty much dies, then fully charged but I've read that little and often can prolong battery life?

Don't think it's really supposed to matter with modern batteries, but everyone has their own quirky way of doing things :)

I'm getting a good day or 2 out of it, but to be honest it also charges up very fast so it's not much of a hassle.

So there's no harm in keeping it sat in a charging dock all day while I'm at work then? (this is of course assuming I ever actually get my hands on one... *waves fist at Orange*)

Don't worry about the battery. :)

However, I'd just charge it to full (doesn't matter if it stays full in the dock for a while, etc) and then let it drain to about 10%, then charge it up again. That will just ensure any software battery sensors monitor it properly, whether that is actually the case or not, I don't know.

Yep got mine on bank hol mon...sadly my order with blackberrystuff also came but ended up returning it back to them as the build quality on the one sent to me wasnt great compared to the one i picked up from CPW.

I only got round to setting mine up last night ie transferred my data from my 9780 to my 9900...didnt charge it but had about 25% battery left on it, spent a couple of hrs on the phone with my missus...ended up going to her place with about 10% left...turned the phone off, turned it on this morning, sent a few bbms and emails...didnt have my charger with me...got to my office with about 6% left...started charging it fully now so will see how it works out in the next few days...if it doesnt get me through a full day then ill look at getting it replaced as there are devices out there that are suffering from bad battery life.

Ordered my charging dock from play.com...the 9900 that i got sent by blackberrystuff didnt come with a charging dock:(.
