VR headsets sales down nearly 70%

Ouch!

Average price of a VR sold in the last couple quarters is $1k USD, no wonder sales are tanking at that price

Poor @melmac :p:cry::D

VR will have it's day again one day. Maybe in a decade or so once we can have higher resolution headsets that are wireless, more comfortable and much cheaper.

We will have the horse power to drive them too by then.

We also need to get more killer apps. Right now one of the best games that I played and completed was Half Life Alyx.

A Quest 3 costs 400-£500 and it sells a lot.

To say "VR is dead" is just an outright BS statement. There is a market for it and new games are still being released including some AAA titles with VR support. UEVR injector has also massively increased the number of games you can play.

To say "VR is suffering from reduced demand and a lack of new content" would be the accurate thing to write. But then again, you don't do sensible and accurate do you? ;)
VR is for casuals

You actually gave a thumbs up to a Grim post? It's his usual one sided posting with only part of the story. He's just annoyed with VR at the moment because after fanboying for Sony for nearly two years about the PSVR 2, they let him down. Not just once but three times!!

In Quarter 1 the only headset released was the Apple Vision Pro. And Meta stopped shipping the Quest 2 around then and ceased production completely at the end of Quarter 1. It was just an usual Quarter 1 because of those two reasons. With the release of the Pimax Crystal lite and the upcoming releases from HTC and Meta, Headset shipments will increase again.

Saying VR is dead is nonsense.

Ahh, I see. Yeah, the PSVR2 has almost been abandoned by Sony, its in a far worse state for sure than the PCVR market that at least has a decent back catalogue of titles.

However, Sony are releasing a USB adapter that lets the PSVR2 connect to a PC, so maybe grim can get some more use out of ti there!

Soon a new wave of VR/XR devices are going to be released with new headsets from Samsung and Google as well as new headsets from Bytedance Pico. Meta licensing Horizon out to other manufacturers will also see a slew of new headsets from Asus et al. The market will slowly pick up again but it will take some time.

You know when I said Sony let him down 3 times? The first was that the headset wasn't as good as the specs suggested. Small sweet spot, bad mura, spotty tracking and only so-so controllers. The second let down was Sony not fulfilling their promises about games and supporting the headset. And the third let down is Sony making the headset work with a PC but without some of the best features of the headset. No HDR, No eye tracking, No Haptic feedback, No adaptive triggers. And to make matters worse, you don't just need the USB adapter you need a bluetooth adapter too.

Yeah I agree, it's a disappointingly half-baked implementation in terms of features and the bluetooth issue is baffling. However, it does at least still give you an OLED headset with 'acceptable' visual quality and decent ergonomics.

I will still be waiting patiently to see what comes out in 2024 and 2025, but I will upgrade to an RTX5090 because my Quest Pro will still use that horsepower for modded Skyrim and Fallout 4 and UEVR etc!

AFMF 2 is getting pretty good reports, something tells me nvidia is going to have a driver based version of their frame gen for the 50xx :p It's going to be very interesting to see what else they will come up with as they'll need something to get 4090 users to upgrade!
