My opinion off course.

Yeah, my opinion too.

Don't get me wrong, I have honestly tried to like it. I've even asked to borrow CD's off my mates to see if I can like it, but I just can't stomach it at all. There is obviously a lot out there so maybe somewhere there is at least one track I may be able to listen to.

But I'm still looking.

As for what I listen to, I listen to all except hiphop/rap/rnb whatever you want to call it. 80s and 90s classics, modern, dance and trance, some pleasent rock. You name it as long as it isn't annoying I listen to it all.

I didn't intend my original post to be a flame at hiphop or anybody who likes it, just wanted to give my opionin. Sorry if offended.

Hmm impressive but i dont knwo how they sum the figures together. What do you mean by top selling music? shouldnt it be top selling album??

It is music but i guess it is down to individual...
There are plenty ..yeap plenty of hiphop tracks that are NOT bad, catchy (Akon -locked up), Nice tune (Tupac - ghetto gospel),.....My opinion off course.
It's a shame that noises like those get labelled as music as they are amongst the most annoyingly bad, talent exempt, dross heavy pap released in recent years, my opinion of course:)

No not at all, we are exchanging knowledge and views... :) I like 80's music too, good for sampling when banging out beat on my akai Mpc 1000.

I dont like trance as i kinda find it too electro and electro effects... As per the hiphop stuff, carry own searching you might come across something you like one day. I dont expect every one to like hiphop... ;)

My bad what i actually meant was - One of the biggest(if not the biggest) selling music genre in the world. :)

Some one like tupac shifted 25million or so copies according to mtv (when a programme was made about who is the greatest rapper ever..)

Have ever tried producing a hiphop track? Most likely no but i do have a home studio and i can tell you know that it requires talent to come out with something nice (a banger).

I guess it is all a case of man's meat is another man's poison...

Aye I think he [tupac] has shifted 44.5million albums in the US alone.

I once watched a documentary on it and although hip-hop an interesting is although it is associated as 'black' music the money to fund it is almost entirely from 'white' money. This has long been accepted as black kids in urban areas don't have the money to buy albums so copy it on tape whereas white kids have the money to buy the albums. - Entirely unrelated to the topic but I found it interesting to say the least. :)

But I've never heard a nice hip hop song, so they are talentless. I wouldn't dream of telling someone that there are plenty of hip hop songs that are NOT bad, catchy, as music is down to taste, which you seem to understand oddly, yet still try & tell people how good it is, it's not, it's rubbish as far as I'm concerned:)

It is the truth but i think that applys in the US alone. Very intersting documentary...

I have and run 3 studios and yes, I have produced, mixed and mastered a number of genres including hip-hop.

To be honest, it's basically 'created' and requires much less talent than a band who play their music.. on the other hand, it does make the engineers job a lot easier as you don't have to time-stretch or key shift

You said it man, and im cool with which ever way you wanna swing. it cant be all that bad though...Think about it. You must have shake you head or tap your feet to a hiphop track once.....

It is hard to say I guess there are hip-hop records which are amazing testaments to production and there are crap ones just like in every genre. I mean how many nu-metal kiddy bands are around today playing in pubs and recording singles? Thousands...

How can you compare a live band to a music centred around the studio (most of it)? They are diffferent and each requires different skills. i dont agree with people saying it is talentless blah blah blah. I do my own stuff at home and if you want i can meet up with you and ask you to bang out a back track on a MPC machine or knock some few beats on reason.... You might find the latter easier to do but you GOTTA HAVE SKILLS to do it on the mpc believe it or not. :)
