Blaupunkt 50/149Z 50 Inch Full HD 1080p LED TV with Freeview HD

£20 off voucher

Cheers for that, I was going to get a second for the conservatory (go on wall), however there's not quite enough space after measuring.

That's why I was looking for reviews, let alone intensive reviews that I can't find. Was curious to see how well it done within the Rec.709 colour space. As AVForums does not speak of these TV's in good favour. So there must be a reason… I'm not talking about joe nobody.

I'm no expert on these things, and not going to start measuring colours - I fully understand people doing this on dedicated home cinema rooms however. But as said picture looks very good to myself, the £250 I paid made it a sweet deal. Who knows next Black Friday there will be some 60" TV's just as reduced if so i'll upgrade to one of those then!

Ahh link works for me now...think hotukdeals was down earlier....good deal but will hold out for the 40" model. £179 for a 40" 1080p tv seems great to me :)

Well 3rd time is the charm so they say. Got the third tv now unpacked it quick test and no led light showing through a gap at the top or an cracks and picture seemed uniform with no circles or whatever but it was laying flat on a desk so might not have noticed any uniformaty issues till its upright but so far so good. Just gona wait till bro is free then fix the stand and put it up right etc as dont trust putting it from flat to upright considering the size tbh and with my past luck i dont wana risk it.

Other two tvs were the 149z ones this one is the 148z, seems identical hope it supports mvk and aac sound etc like the 149 supported but time will tell even if they dont im still gona be happy enough cos will hook up a external 3tb hdd and use a android box for streaming etc later when it arrives tho got the hdd now.

So im happy at the mo that it came ok. Lets just hope nothing comes up that is a problem. I mean yes there is a slight slight gap on the left side of the frame but no led showing through and pic is fine there afaik when i tested it on at the time. But i dont mind as long as nothing pops up after putting the stand on and setting it up right.

Really would like a proper smart tv stand for these tvs as just using a computer desk a nice one mind but still its a bit high the tv on it. Ill see if i can square a cheap stand from gumtree or somit for a tenner or so as ive seen a few on there.

Just an update related to warranty.

At time of purchase, Tesco said there was extra free warranty on these TV's, however it would be emailed in January.

Has anyone received an email about the extra warranty?

Not yet.

But considering they are not going to stock them i think the extra warranty is out the window tbh. You just have the 1 year with tesco or blaupunkt and thats it. Could be wrong but i was told if they dont sell it or cease selling it like out of stock all the time it wont have a warranty. Well for replacement anyhow, u might get the extra if u want ur money back i suppose.

I emailed tesco about warranty a few days ago and they rang me up this morning to tell me i should have got a email about it and that they will resend one and it should come within 4-6 days or somit. So if some others here have issues with no email about warranty i would advise you go on tesco direct use contact us and email em about it and then expect a call back about it in a day or so.

Your warranty is always always with the company that took your money. Your contract of sale is with Tesco. They took your money. They're responsible for supporting the product. If the product needs to be repaired then it's Tesco's job to liaise with their supplier to make this happen; not yours. It's really important to remember this because many retailers simply try to pass the buck. Don't let them. Your rights are enshrined in Law under the Sale of Goods Act.

It's worth remembering that Polaroid is no longer a manufacturing company. It's now simply a badge stuck on box. The same box could appear as any other supermarket brand TV. As such, the support mechanism for these products is different to say a Panasonic/Sony/Samsung/LG. Supermarkets often buy their own brand/no-name product with no warranty support from the manufacturer. In exchange for this they get a cheaper price. It's a gamble; "what percentage are expected to fail versus the extra profit from a cheaper deal." In essence the buck stops with the retailer. I'd advise you to tape your till receipt to the back of the TV.

On the extended warranty situation, if I've understood you correctly then I think Trading Standards would be very interested to hear from you. Part of the deal at the time of purchase was an extra extended warranty, but that was to be arranged and details sent out at a later date; January, in this case. It seems now that Tesco are reneaguing on the deal? If that's so then I think that's illegal.

It could be argued successfully in court that part of the reason for you going ahead with the purchase was specifically because of the reassurance of a longer warranty. To take your money and supply you goods, but then not complete on the additional warranty means that Tesco has broken the contract of sale. That's a serious issue. It's something I'd pursue with them very vigorously.

I have a Blaupunkt 40/148z purchased as a display board. I'm assuming it's fundamentally the same TV! A PC is connected to the telly using a high quality DVI-HDMI cable. The Intel HD graphics are set to output 1920x1080p60 with no scaling options. Despite this and the TV aspect being set as 'point to point' (1:1 pixel mapping) the output is horrible and suffers from awful scaling:

It almost looks like the image is being squashed horizontally? I tried another laptop via HDMI set to output 1080p/60 with no scaling and had the same result (NVidia based card). All other aspect ratio options on the telly cause overscanning and zoom.

Strangely, setting the PC to 1080i/60 gives a usable picture however the image is softer and has artefacts from the deinterlacing.

Any ideas? It's very annoying!

Clearly the TV is still scaling the image. This is a problem with many domestic TVs. They'll work okay with HDTV timings, but not with VESAG graphics timings as used by proper monitors.

As a quick test you could try changing the GFX output refresh to 59.94Hz rather than 60Hz. The reason being that TV refresh rate is archaically defined based on mains power frequency. US TV used the mains frequency as a substitute for fitting an oscillator in early TVs. Now we are stuck with it.

VESAG is a typo. It should read VESA.

I want you to be prepared for the possibility that the TV will never scale a PC sourced 1080p image correctly. That happens with a few other brands of TV. Also, Blaupunkt isn't the sort of brand that would get a lot of attention from the sort of crowd who use outboard scalers to get the best possible picture. That means that if there's a set of manual timing figures that produce a correctly scaled image then you might be the first person trying to find them.

The following are not the figure for your telly. They're just to show you the sort of detail required to drive a difficult display in 1:1 pixel mapping. Just to reitterate, these are not the figures for your TV.

VTOT: 806
VACT: 768
VSYNC: 6
VFRN: 3
HTOT: 1344
HACT: 1024
HSYNC: 136
HFRN: 24

If possible, try making the Blaupunkt your main monitor. Remove any other monitors. Shut down the PC and then reboot the with the TV turned on. See if the PC sorts it itself. Also check that overscan is switched off

Note: This model TV can not be used as a PC/laptop monitor via the HDMI input. The HDMI Input is provided to view digital content with compatible external devices
Have you tried the VGA input?

Also, their description of Point2Point is a bit ambiguous.
Point2Point
Automatically displays the best picture format. So the picture is in the correct position. May have black lines at the top/bottom and/or sides.

Try Original - "Will display the picture from the broadcaster without any change"

That's interesting; they've almost gone out of their way to stop it being used as a computer display?!

I have tried the VGA port. This is limited to a lower resolution which looks rubbish.

I don't have original as an aspect ratio option :(.

EDIT: I can send a 1280x720 60p signal which is displayed 1:1 on the display perfectly with black borders! So frustrating .

Still no word on the 5 year warranty from tesco. :( I emailed em back in jan or feb i think i said in a previous post and was suppose to be told or sent warranty info. Nah it didnt happen.

Btw about gaming on these at 1080p using hdmi and p2p formatting.

I have a android box that can use nvidia shield kinda streaming system with nvidia experiance. I used that once to play gta 5 at 1080p using my main pc and streaming to the android box using somit from playstore and except for a bit of input lag it played pretty nice if you just wanted to drive around or not aim anything like a weapon as i usually use kb and mouse for them things tho if i had a wifi kb and mouse id have played it better i think but i was just using a wired 360 pad.

Displayed fine and played ok that way incase u can do the same if u wanted to game and have decent wifi and a android box and a nvidia card.
