How on earth does one end up looking at a Focus RS, a Mustang GT and a 520d estate?! :p

I'm not sure what I want next:p:p Mustang was just for a look, Focus RS wasn't comfortable for me, so todays upshot was, interested in Volvo S/V60's, Bmw 5 Series, maybe 3 series and Mercedes C Class Estates :p

Yeah, but why would someone with an interest in what are some pretty quick cars decide that a 520d is what they wanted all along? Surely one of the beefier engines would be what you really wanted

Engine wasn't important; all we were doing is sitting in it :p I'd most likely go for a petrol, although would probably be realistically limited to the 2 litre for insurance :(

How is somebody buying 30k cars limited to 2 litres for insurance purposes?! Surely there is almost no difference in insurance unless you are 17 in which case I doubt you'd be buying one of these anyway.

I should've kept my mouth shut:p:p Today was basically a quick fact-finding mission to what car I'd like to buy. It could be 6 months time, it could be 18 months time; not sure yet. It could even be 5 years time if things don't go to plan :eek:At the minute insurance for pretty much anything is horrendous(will only have 2 years no claims in May, only had a car for 2 years) so insurance could be a stumbling block; engine size may not make a difference but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it

Strange issue on my e92 335i:

Pop gear stick over into manual and it goes into manual mode and shows M)gear no here) on the dash. After a few seconds it then switches back into D but the stick ios still over to the left. This affects acceleration as it shifts when i dont want it to - i'm in manual mode after all...

Lights next to the shifter are not on when pushed over to manual mode..

I have the mondial warranty so i need to get it booked in to be looked at but has anyone come accross this issue before at all?

My e38 did this and I cured it by spraying electrical contact cleaner (NOT WD/40!) over the gubbins under the selector gater, cured it for me but obviously a totally different car from a different era, I doubt the mechanism is that much different though?

Volvo trucks do a similar thing, again, contact cleaner sorts it.

I didn't have a warranty mind you so wanted to sort it myself, I'd just get it booked in as it's clearly some fault or other and you may void your claim if you try to do it yourself.

Reading through here quite a few scare stories of expensive repairs and maintenance... considering to sell my Z4, 3.0 auto on a 54 plate, to a newer 30i or 35i DCT on a 2009/10 plate..seem to be around 15-16k .... like the M sport front styling more, black would be nice with the red leather, sat nav etc.... How risky a purchase would that prove, does it need to have BMW warranty? Is that possible on that age..... mileage could be up be 50k.

Depends on your view on risk vs the cost of warranty really, I'd certainly want cover on a 35i at least.

You might be a bit disappointed with the 30i - they feel a bit lethargic by comparison to the previous generation 3 litre car (si at least). It's a totally false sensation as they really aren't far apart on the road, probably the extra refinement in the tin top but something to bear in mind
